hey guys, i built for the first time a pc this year, its really weak compared to builds ive seen on Linus's youtube channel, my budget was low and hardware is kinda expensive in my country, but anyways i could use some tips on what to upgrade and not get a bottleneck ( might have one right now maybe?) so here is my rig

i5 4590 3.3ghz quad core

Asrock h81m-dgs

gainward geforce gtx 650 Ti 1 GB

floston FL500EXTRA 500 W psu

6 GB RAM

300 GB harddrive

CPU cooler is a deep cool cheap kinda stock cooler.

the harddrive is from a pc i bought back in 2010, and a optic drive from the same pc.

So could u guys help me into the right direction?

Thanks

btw if i posted in the wrong sub forum, im really sorry, i dont usually use forums.

I would suggest some more ram if you want to game on the PC. Possible 2x 4gb DDR3 ram. Also a bigger HDD for some flexibility like a 1TB HDD they have come down in price alot. When it comes down to PSU's it is normally good to have a higher wattage so that the pc is not lacking power. You need about 10 -15% more power than you need. a 500w PSU would be about right I think. I hope this helped

So if this is a gaming rig then I would get a cheaper CPU. AMD makes good cheap CPU's of if your an Intel fan boy like me I would get the pentium anniversary edition. It can as Linus showed it perform in games overclocked to be a few FPS slower than an i7. Not sure how you are getting 6 GB of ram I think motherboards only support single Dim, 2 dims, and so forth. So I would get 4 GB if you can't afford 8 since most games won't utilize more. I would get at least a 750 ti or a used 660 and nothing less. This set up will max out 1080p for most games.

1x 4GB with 1x 2 Gb

whats the diffrence between my 650 Ti and a 660?

Also why would i go from a quad core to a dual core for gaming? i mean yeah i cant oc my current one...but im not a hardcore gamer either to oc and stuff.

The reason for going with the lower end CPU is to put more money into the GPU.

Say the i5 and 650 ti get 30 FPS in a game the dual core and a 660 would get 45 FPS and the whole system would cost less.   Gaming wants GPU power, with 1 or 2 strong CPU cores you are set for 1080p.  A 660 would be the bare minimum for a GPU.  A 650 ti isn't much cheaper yet for less powerful.

depends on the game? for example i used to play Guild wars 2 and that game needed more cpu then gpu, same goes for the next mmo that i will be playing in a couple of days when it launches.

btw the specs are the actual pc that is done and in use not a wish list.

No offense, bad idea. The gpu you have now sucks so getting a FX processor and a better gpu is good

i apreciate the opinion sir, but AMD is never going to be the way for me...at least not in the near future even if they make a 15 core cpu. im loyal to intel, always been

Trust me games don't fully utilize more than two cores.  I have had games (BF4) use 4 cores but even then it is only efficiently using 1, and the bottleneck from the CPU will be far less than one of the GPU.

The hard drive speed might be bottle necking your pc, Check the cpu temperatures, if it's very high then a better cpu cooler might also be helpful (Although you can't overclock). And finally It depends on what game's your running, are they CPU based games like Minecraft? or are they GPU based games like most shooter games? If it's the latter then a gpu upgrade might be worth while, you could even just buy another 650 and run they in sli, hope this helped :)

I suggest you to have 2x4GB of RAM of any favorite brand that you like. If you want to go cheap, go with Transcend memory or Kingston memory. That'll be good for your rig.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

I am mainly going to play ArcheAge in a few days when it releases, its a cpu based game, not gaming cpu is at around 30, but yeah need to check it while playing something.

yeah my next buy is going to be a 4 gb ram stick, currently have 1 kingston hyperfuryx 4gb and a 2gb one

Getting a 750 Ti wont hurt cause it is an awesome budget card and maybe use dual channel ram for some more speed

tbh i am thinking of a better gpu, but it will be in a new build only.

First of all, that's a decent little gaming rig right there! You should be proud! My first gaming rig cost many more monies, and was significantly slower (circa-Pentium with MMX).

Contrary to what many will have you believe, that CPU will last you years, honestly unless you're doing something incredibly intense like what I call "Benchmark Gaming" (Don't be that guy) that CPU will be perfectly fine.

Now, I have a few suggestions, but I need more info like: What resolution monitor you have, what type of games do you play (FPS, MMO, etc) Do you plan to upgrade your monitor or add extra's for surround?

So then:

  • i5 Quad Core - Perfectly fine
  • Motherboard - Also perfectly suited to your CPU
  • Memory - Could do with an 8GB Kit, 16GB if you really want to make sure you have ample reserves. That 6GB kit looks like it could be a tripple channel or just  a bunch of sticks, which probably means you're not taking full advantage of Dual Channel support.
  • GPU - GTX 650 Ti is a pretty decent contender still! But I can't really comment without knowing what resolution you're playing at. if you really want to upgrade, the GTX 750 Ti or even the GTX 760 would be a nice boost.
  • Storage - Definitely upgrade this. Either; Western Digital Black 1TB, Seagate Desktop SSHD, or if you want a massive difference, Crucial MX100 256GB SSD and a WD Black 1TB. SSD's have come so far in terms of pricing now, you could get a 512GB SSD now for what it would have cost for only a 16 or 32GB SSD three years ago
  • CPU Cooler - doesn't really need changing, unless you want a quiet system, and want it to look awesome, look in to a Corsair CLC like the H80i.
  • Powersupply - Ehhh I'm not so sure on that particular one, looks like a generic unit which would worry me with a high performance type system. If you want a decent upgrade in terms of safety to your hardware, look in to the low end Seasonic units like the 360w G-360 (80-plus Gold rated).

Get more ram will ya?

Try to get a 8GB Dual Channel if possible, but if this is final verdict or a tight budget then save up some more!

As a few other people this build is quite ample already. Out of interest what budget do you have, and what are you looking to improve on? (eg. Game/Boot Speed, Higher Quality/Resolution)

Also remember, there are plenty of other things to spend money on, besides a PC. Just because you don't have 32GB RAM, a custom watercooling loop and 2 GPUs doesn't mean your PC is bad, just that you spent less money on it. As Linus is fond of saying, the price/performance falls off very dramatically, and you're in what is just about the sweet spot at the moment.

HI Andrei666!

Your specs are really gud for gaming as i see the processor and graphics card but u will lack a bit of performance in HDD and Ram

I suggest u somehow sell the 300 gb of HDD and get at least 750GB Hdd cause i have experienced this that when u have a beast PC you will always end up with less space, And RAM ofcourse if you do editing and stuff then definitely you need 8GB for better multitasking and gaming experience and last but not least a good PC case which can have good amount of fans to help your PC stay cool but i will recommend water cooling because fans will blow wind of room temperature and in hot climate or humid that can become a problem unless you use AC in you room, this will increase your PC's Lifespan and will also increase performance! :D

Any question or enquires just contact me on my skype : Jaxerpazz

Hope it helps! :D

resolution is 1920x1080, its a  wide sony bravia tv, and i usually play normal games like AC or GTA but latetly ive only been playing mmos.

I do plan on adding an 2nd monitor, a 19'' one in the near future, pretty sure it wont be a gaming monitor since those are so expensive here. The rig so far cost me about 700 euros but considering i changed the cpu 2 times this year what is in the case ( and the case isnt  gaming case btw) is about 600 euros worth of hardware ( had a i3 4330 3.5 Ghz before upgrading to the i5 last month)

sorry for the late response btw

Personally, I like the i5's. They run everything pretty well, and if it's gaming you're looking to push further, then an i5 is fine. Personally I would start with a GPU upgrade -- maybe to a 770 or a 780. They're pricey, but I just hear about too many problems with the 750ti.
