compatibility problem please help! :)

Hello all I was advised from my friend after he bought his parts that he had an MSI B85 G43 mobo with an i5 4690K and I told him that the CPU isn't supported and to sell his board, ignoring my advice he went ahead and build his sytem the GPU he had is an r9 280x 3GB and 8 GB ram and on ultra 1080p he gets 40-60 frames and I aassume this is from the compatibility . please help thanks harry

They are compatible, just probably not the best combo as he has an overclocking chip and a board that can not overclock

Need more information.  What game is he playing that is getting these results?  Are all drivers for the GPU up to date?

Well, you are wrong - these parts are compatible, only on B85 he or shop should have made BIOS update for full compability.

 

Without BIOS update it could not work on full, but there are more things to consider - temps, PSU, faulty HDD.

They are compatible, just needs the latest BIOS - check the motherboard manual for how to flash the BIOS Oh nvm - but that 40 - 60 fps on ultra is normal, have you seen the benchmarks?

The most common result of insufficient wattage is a paperweight that looks like a PC

Okay so the game is bf4 and hr has updated the bios but since its a devils canon chip I assumed he needed a h97 or z97 board and idk he may not have the drivers because i had an R9 270 and i5 4690 and I got 70-113 frames on ultra so idk I'll ask him if he has the drivers

Both resolutions for his setup and mine are 1080 p

His power supply is 500w and I told him he needs 850w 80 plus gold as a minimum

he doesnt need 850w. i am running a 280x on a 650w. i Would say a decent 550w would do him justice, or a very high end 500w

I came to the community for your advice other wise he would have followed my advice -_- I needed more information on what could be done and if what I was on about was right or not clearly it wasn't that right and you learn something new every day
