Hello,

I have a shadow rock 2 CPU cooler. I could OC my FX 8320 to 4.6Ghz at 1.4125V at 60C. I am just about to buy a new Intel i5 4690k or i7 4770k (i5=$210 i7=$288) so I want to get a new cooler. My Mobo is a MSI Z97 gaming 7. Is this H100 cooler a large upgrade?

Thanks

not really. you will most likely be limited by voltage more than temps but it may be quieter depending on the fans

|| MAELSTROM ||

|| i5 3570K W/ CM 212x @ 4GHz || r9 290 Windforce || Corsair Obsidian 450D || 2tb HDD + 120gb 840 evo SSD || 2x4gb Hyperx Fury Blue

What cpu and on the i5 (I think that one since its cheaper and gets same performance in games even 5 years from now) it can oc since its devils canyone plus I have a good Mobo, what temp difference should I see and is it worth the $60 it cost me for the H100?

nuttin wrong with the H100, the refurbs are from the older batch of pump noise

(replaced pump/controller) and recouped losses. i used my original H100 for years

till i sold it with the FX rig and it still works like a champ. it'll be better in cooling

ovber the DR2, the newer DR3 it'd be a close match as the H100 has to have the

fans at 50% or less to compete in sound output.

temp wise, i've seen as much a 8-12°. with the H100 fans on high perf, could be

more. the middle setting is balanced and good thermal control and not too harsh

on the ears. i believe when i was 1.535v on 8350 and the fans were balanced

temps were 76°ish which most peeps cringe, but no throttling and the CHVFZ

VRM was still warm, but not scalding the 990FXa UD3 was a total disaster in heat.

What was your oc? Also I would get 10c less?

5.1 with the 8-pin and 4-pin secondary or 4.9 with just the 8-pin. something with

applying the 4-pin supplemental power raised the heat pretty bad.

you mean 10° less than the DR2? it is possible.

dunna know on intel, i mainly use the H100i for intel now. seldom use the D14 or

Megahalems Black any more. even the test bench has the Tt water extreme 2.0.

Well H100i should be close (-+2C) from the H100... So what oc do you have on what CPU and what temps? Also would it beat the Nh-D14?

i7-4770k stock fan XTU stress was 80° (A=24°) static volt mode.

undervolt to 1.080v and temps fell to 68° stock fan, mind you.

i7-4770k H100i silent fan XTU stress was 68° (A=24°) static volt mode.

undervolt to 1.080v and temps fell to 56° silent fan (700RPM).

i7-4770k H100i silent fan 4.8/1.45v temps were 82°, final voltage

4.8/1.39v and 74° using the XTU stress 30-min. STABLE.

H100i beat D14 in thermals on 4.8 and comparative on noise (using rosewill

hyperborea fans).
