Time Keeps Changing ASUS Maximus VI Hero

Hazzeh

Hey guys, I've had a problem the last few weeks where the time keeps changing by itself and it's really annoying.

Apparently, from reading online it's a motherboard issue(something about CMOS battery?), but I don't know anything about motherboards so I'm hoping you guys can give me a straight forward solution.

It's an ASUS Maximus VI Hero, about 9 months old.

Thanks in advance.

Somewhere on your motherboard, usually near the PCIe slots (The ones which you put a graphics card in), you will find a small circular battery, the CMOS battery.

This battery is used to keep the clock running on your computer while it has no power, and is used for a few other basic low level functions as well.

If this battery runs out, your clock will most likely reset every time you turn your computer on.

What you need to do to fix this is identify the type of battery (Usually a CR2032) and replace it with a new one. Then your clock should be fully functional again.

Hope this helps!

My PC:

4670k      GTX 760 ACX      CoolerMaster Hyper 412s      Fractal Design Node 804      G1 Sniper M5      Corsair RM 650      WD Red 1TB     Samsung 840 Evo 120GB

It doesn't reset when I turn it on, it changes whilst I'm using it.  Does this mean it's something different?

Hmmm. I guess it wouldn't hurt to change it anyway to see if it works.

You could try making sure you are set to the correct timezone and regional settings in control panel.

Is your BIOS clock also incorrect? If so then it is almost definitely the CMOS battery (Unless it is simply set to the wrong timezone)
