i know there's obviously a difference in memory, but i dont understand why you'd buy the gtx670 over the 660ti, when it seems to be better in nearly every way.

Huh, looks like they just stuck a 660 Ti chip on a 670/680 board.

But yeah the only difference really is memory bus and memory size. The 670 tends to outperform the 660 Ti with higher resolutions, or in multi-monitor setups.

Though even with the limited 192-bit Memory Bus on the 660 Ti, it still out performs almost every GTX 5xx card.

The GTX 680,670 & 660 Ti run the same GK 104 GPU , there are however differences, the 660 Ti has a narrower memory interface of 192 while the 680 and 670 have 256bit wide interfaces .

Another difference is between the 680 and 670, the GTX 680 has more functional units per core compared to the 670 .

With normal cards the 670 is 15 better in raw performance. Now, when you get to companies adding extra memory, (both of these cards have added memory from stock), you get into crazy price changes. Companies can charge a fair bit more for 2GB of added ram, because a lot of people will pay that much for 4GB of ram if they game with mulitple monitors, or 2560x1600 (though I could argue 3GB is plenty for the latter option).
