Hi all, I've been experiencing problems again with my system (I've never not had problems with it), this time it's with the display drivers (certain of this). Every time I start playing a game I'm fine up until I actually get to a point where I play, the menu and loading screens are fine, but then the game crashes and when I had the 14.4 drivers installed I got the "Display drivers have stopped responding and have recovered." error.

I just now tried out Biosock Infinite, and I only got through the starting screens (Irrational Games/AMD Gaming Evolved/2K) and then the screen went black, and then Chrome appeared, but my system froze and I could still hear the music from Infinite. I had to CTRL + ALT + DEL and start Task Manager and end Biosock Infinite's process to unfreeze everything other than Task Manger (I could move my cursor around).

So since I installed the 14.7 drivers I don't get a notification about the display drivers not responding, but the same thing happens with the 14.4.

Wolfenstein: The New Order crashes straight away when I start the SP campaign, same goes for starting a match in Ghosts MP.

I've uninstalled and re-installed the drivers 4 times now, and the problem persists, and what I find irritating is that it has only occurred today, just when I got Wolfenstein ~.~

This has happened before and it was resolved but I have no idea how (I have a decently bad memory). Just yesterday I was able to play Infinite fine.

What I have installed today:

CCleaner

MSI Afterburner

Wolfenstein: The New Order

What I have done already:

Re-installed 14.4 drivers 3 times, twice with a new download each time, the fourth with 14.7.

Run CCleaner to clean up registry.

Created a DWORD (32-bit) Value in regedit to set the TDR (Timeout Detection and Recovery) Delay from 2 seconds to 6.

Run a memory diagnostic, no problems were found.

Run DXDIAG, no problems were found.

Before each installation of the drivers I deleted everything AMD related (bar AMD Gaming Evolved and one file in C:/Prgram Files/Common Files/ATI Technologies/Multimedia) I deleted.

I'm certain that Wolfenstein isn't the problem, though I'm really tempted to move everything that's on this HDD to my other one, format this one and then start fresh just because of all the hassles I've had. Also the problem is not because of temperatures, max on CPU1 is 65oC (bad thermal paste application, idle is about 43-46) and GPU1 doesn't break 40o (this would be because it's driver relayed, just thought to mention this in case some people ask me about temps).

System Specifications:

CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K running with stock CPU cooler

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LP 2x4GB (1600MHz)

GPU: Gigabyte R9 280X 3X Winforce OC

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z87X-OC Force

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB

PSU: Antec HCG-900

Peripherals: CM Storm Quick Fire Rapid Red; Logitech MX Revolution

Monitor: AOC i2367Fh

So what do you guys suggest I do? Re-install Windows? Or is there another option(s) that I should try?

Cheers!

"Download more RAM".

Guessing there is something wrong entirely with the drivers. Something seems to be conflicting. You didn't install it in another directory right? I once did that and my drivers crashed.

Try erasing everything related to AMD and try redownloading it.

I did, deleted everything except for ATI Technologies in Program Files/Common Files as one files was in use, everything else AMD related (bar AMD Gaming Evolved) I deleted.

Again,sorry for the wall of information, I always go so in-depth and end up typing enough to wish I was using a Cherry MX Blue keyboard.

Undo all configs on the driver and try.

--->If that doesn't work..

Try safe mode

--->If that doesn't work..

Try another HDD

--->If that doesn't work

Try reinstalling Windows.

--->If that doesn't work

Receive warranty support

--->If Gigabyte acts like a bitch like every other company

Get a hammer break your GPU

--->Than

You never buy Gigabyte and hate them for the rest of your life

--->Afterwards

Get a new GPU.

What were you specifically doing before?

Sounds like a lot of trouble, can I just skip to the second last step?

On topic: how would I "Undo all configs on the driver"??

What were you specifically doing before drivers started to crash?

Go into your drivers settings and at preferences, set it to factory settings.

Reset all settings to defaults, Ima try Wolfenstein out, or should I reboot first?

I only installed those three programs, I have no clue as to why the drivers are being retarded.

Try a reboot. If that doesn't work, try safe mode.

Going to try safe mode, tried before and after reboot, same result.

@OriginalPromise

So DirectX does run when Windows is in Safe Mode, so I couldn't even launch either Wolfenstein or Infinite. Also, I just booted back up and the display driver just stopped working and recovered. I'll just re-install Windows tomorrow, right now I'll move everything I want to keep over to my other HDD.

Cheers, I'll report back with the results at the end of tomorrow, hopefully I can get everything done by then.

Also, what drivers will I need to install? Just so I know what I need, motherboard drivers from disc, GPU drivers from disc, but what else?

Motherboard, Graphics Card, CPU(?), BIOS update, etc.

I have a Samsung, and it updates everything for me. I only had to download the Catalyst driver, but here are some of the drivers I have.

(Bluetooth/Sound is not on there also)

Right, well I'll be sure to install all of the utilities and drivers from the motherboard discs and GPU disc, also I'll see if there is a BIOS update.

ok, i have always had these problems with AMD, but there is usually an easy fix and this has always worked for me.  Uninstall all of ur drivers with a driver sweeper program.  Open up ur pc and reset both gpus, meaning that u take it out and put it back in, then update your bios, look up a video on how to do that.  then install the latest drivers and reboot.  you should be all set.

I can help with programming and hardware.

I've already reset the GPU (only one) twice this morning, and I'll try uninstalling all of the drivers, I'd rather not re-install Windows so thanks for some more info, greatly appreciated :D

I was also going to update the motherboard's BIOS anyways.

Yeh my thought exactly, I've switched it over to another 280X (I wanted to mine some Vert, never got around to even start making ROI), and I bought them from eBay, one of them was "New" but had been opened up and there was already dust in the GPU :S
