Hello all,

So I'm building a new (micro-atx) workstation for my little sister that is now going to her second year in architecture.
She did her first year with her macbook and I for one went crazy seeing her struggle with that slow thing. I know that the thing was never made for such intensive work. But fuck me it was so slow and sluggish. Reminded me when I was making a high poly car model in 3DsMax on a Dell m1701 (witch was one hell of a laptop 7-8 years ago)

So anyway I put my FreeNAS project on hold and will use that money to give her a decent workstation. (Around 750 Euro's )

So first things first, what programs will she be using:
*Autocad 2014 - 2015 -> As far as I know autocad mainly uses 1 core for most stuff while designing and uses multi-core to render stuff. So single core performance is key here
*Revit 2014-2015 -> Uses multi-core and likes fast ones
*Photoshop cs6 -> multi-core
*Sketch-up -> no idea

So this is what I have atm

Also... I recently found a post on the forum from a dude that changed his i7 920 with a Xeon X5650 (for 75£ or 90€) and it's OC'ing to about 5Ghz or so... And it's rocking Cinebench like mad.
Now I have a i7 920 (@ 4ghz) myself. SOOO what if I replace that with a Xeon X5650 and give that to my little sister and then buy a new CPU and Mobo for myself?

I'm guessing it would blow the Xeon 1231 V3 away?

The X5650 is stupid expensive (more expensive than the build you have there). If you want a strong 6-core you would do much better grabbing a 5930k.

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

Indeed, forgot to add it because I already have one.
