Go for the X-Star. You won't be pushing the kind of frames to fully take advantage of a 144Hz monitor anyways.

Go with 144Hz for gaming.

EDIT: Just saw your GPU and yeah better go with 1440p since you wouldn't be able to take advantage of 144Hz.

That depends. If I'm going to be playing cs I'd take the 144Hz. If I'm not going to play anything serious I'd take the 1440p

"Gaming monitor" = slang for shitty TN panel. Get yourself a proper 1440p IPS or PLS panel.

I personally would prefer 1080p gaming, 144Hz.

Firstly - Competitive scene for games, if you've felt how much easier it is going 70+ FPS in a first person/third person shooter, then you're probably not going to go lower than that. Seeing above 60 fps for yourself is an added bonus.

Secondly - You can use other methods to increase quality, such as supersampling. Sure, it's not as efficient or good looking, but I'd take something like that with 144 Hz, than to take 1440p resolution with 60 Hz

Keep in mind, this is just me. :)

depends on what games you'll be playing.

if you're like me, you're a hardcore gamer. but not at all good at games. xD getting the 144 Hz wouldnt help all that much.

unless you find an ips or pls monitor that  pushes 120 hz..... dont get it. IMO.

go for the 1440p one.

if you're reflexes are unmatched by nothing other than a fighter pilot get the 144Hz one.

people saying you won't get 144 are a bit odd, my friend has the gigabyte 760 4GB nad can get about 100-200 in most every game he plays, outside of something like dayZ, BF4 at medium 1080P he still pushes about 90-120

If you are playing games competitively like Counter Strike, then go for the 144hz. Otherwise 1440p would be more fun for daily use.

something i see happeneing alot is people buying amazing hardware and not optimizng it correctly.

usually a -almost- top of the line graphics card can do whatever you want it to, surround gaming, high refresh rates, high amount of pixels... whatever, you just need to sacrifice on of the other traits...

unless ofcourse you're filthy rich and have two titans in your pc like my first boyfriend. *jelious*

You won't get consistent 100-144Hz even on medium-high settings so if you are going 144Hz you have to play on low to take advantage of it, which can be depressing.

Well I heard 30FPS on 1440P still looks amazing

I do play CS:GO, and do get a bit competitive, but not like Global Elite competitive.

30FPS never looks amazing, trust me. Take a look at this:

And if you are playing CS:GO then 144Hz obviously the best for you. And you can get consistent fps with your GPU on this particular game.

The high refresh rate is not just for competitive play. It adds a smoothness which is very immersive. You can move more quickly through levels, scouting much more rapidly, and perceiving more because of the extra frames. I haven't played any competitive title since I started using my vg248qe, but I wouldn't trade it in for anything with a lower refresh rate.

2014 - EVGA 780 SC ACX | 4790K | Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark 1 | Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 16GB | RM650 | Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 | VGA248QE | Fractal Define r4

2015 - EVGA 980 | 4790K | Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark 1 | Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 16GB | RM650 | NZXT X41 | Asus ProArt 1080p IPS | Fractal Define r4

2017 - MSI Gaming X 1080 Ti | 6600K | Strix z270e | Trident DDR4 3GHz 16GB | RM650 | NZXT X42 | LG OLED B9 | Dell U3415W | Corsair Crystal 460x

2021 - MSI Gaming X 1080 Ti | 5600X | Strix B550-F | Trident Neo DDR4 3.6GHz 32GB | Dark Power Pro 12 1500W | EK AIO Basic 360 | LG OLED B9 | Dell U3415W | Corsair 5000D Airflow

2023 - Asus TUF 4090 | 5800X3D | Strix B550-F | Viper DDR4 3.6GHz 32GB | RM1000x | h150i 360 Elite LCD | LG OLED B9 | Dell U3415W | Corsair 5000D Airflow

This is why vast majority of people who experienced 120/144 Hz can't go back to a 60Hz monitor. Newer TN panels have much better colours than older ones. When you calibrate them correctly they can come close to IPS levels but never as good as an IPS.

If you play CSGO, the best investment for that and any FPS game is going to be a 144Hz monitor

1440p is really, really nice not only in games but on the desktop too plus PLS panels are pretty, not to mention those X-Stars are overclockable, should be able to get 96-120Hz on it ;) as long as you can live with the slightly slower pixel response :)
