So i make this thread so we can all discuss about DDR3 vs DDR4.

I think it's better than having thousands threads about the subject.

So i've been looking for clock speeds, latency and prices for DDR3 and DDR4 and right now  it's kinda like this (4x8 Gb sticks and spanish prices):

DDR3:

1033 Mhz CL9 for 294 Eur

1600 Mhz CL7 for 304 Eur

1866 Mhz CL9 for 304 Eur

2133 Mhz CL9 for 317 Eur

2400 Mhz CL10 for 319 Eur

2666 Mhz CL11 for 432 Eur

DDR4:

2133 Mhz CL15 for 403 Eur

2400 Mhz CL15 for 443 Eur

2666 Mhz CL15 for 487 Eur

There are still no 8 Gb sticks for 3000 Mhz DDR4 and some prices are 2 2x8 packs.

If you want the US and Canadian prices feel free to post here and i'll add to first post.

Now comes the question, How does 2133, 2400 and 2666 mhz DDR4 CL15 ram sticks perform against CL9 CL10 and CL11 DDR3 sticks?

I think it's also worth to say that DDR4 sticks run at 1.2V while DDR3 sticks run at 1.5V and that DDR3 runs at Dual Channel while DDR4 runs at Quad Channel.

who the hell cares? yes it's better. should you upgrade to x99 just for ddr4? no

I bought a new rig 2 monthes ago and i have no intention to upgrade. I'm just interested on the whole subject and tired of reading same questions thousands about 1 same product thousands of times across the product lifespan so i thought it would be a good idea to have 1 thread that would have all those questions answering. I hope this thread to grow and so will the first post will be changed to be more usefull.

the true difference in DDR3 and DDR4 (for me at least) are the targets of the markets

is a question of time (don't ask) but the real target from DDR4 are the servers

that they need "high capacity rams" and "low voltage" instead high speed ram (that we use for gaming)

with this in mind, i hear (don't ask where) the 128GB DDR4 are in way for the future

and this is rare also, because i was sure the max of capacity of DDR4 was 64GB dimms

but 128GB is what i hear so far

(try imagine the size of the new servers)

APU = A10

Honestly, I think DDR4 is quite overhyped. Most people around here (including me) would never get any noticable difference in performance from DDR4 over DDR3 (ok, yes: some people actually will, but it's certainly not the majority).

So, I don't really care much about DDR4 at all - yet. I'll use it when it becomes standard - just like DDR3 used to be during the last couple of years. But getting excited about it in any way? Nah. Almost every other component in my rig has better chances of improving performance within the next years than my RAM (of course quite soon, new platforms will require DDR4, and I'm going to need it, just to be able to change other parts, if I choose to).
