is it better to get 2 4 gig sticks, or 4 2 gig sticks....

there would be no performance difference, but 2x4 allows you to upgrade later without ditching any sticks.

2x 4gb sticks, that way you can upgrade to 16 should you need to and you still run in dual channel which 1 noob 8gb stick doesnt..

Feh, a single 8GB stick gives the same working space as a pair of 4GB sticks, doesn't burn a second slot, gives an easy upgrade path to 16GB by tossing in a second 8GB later, and you're not really gonna get much performance increase out of using a pair of 4GB sticks over a single 8GB stick for most things anyway...
