im stuck between a nvidia gtx 660 and a amd 265/270.

i know the 660 is slightly better then the 265 but im not sure about the 270. on another note when i compared features like physx (which im really starting to like) to mantle, i didnt know which one would be better. with direct x 12 releasing soon and im sure open gl having a new update would it be worth it to buy an amd card just for mantle? i dont have alot of money so the card i pick wont be replaced for a few years at a minimal.

my cpu is an amd 8320

yea, but the same can be said for Physx

mantle is worth it, there are a lot of engines that will support it

there are gonna be more games that support mantle

True, but for now i wouldn't buy AMD just for mantle.

Thief and Star Citizen also support Mantle + some other games, but to the OP it will not matter soon Mantle will most likely be gone when DX12 comes out due to DX12 pretty much being a better Mantle.

or so MS claims,

id like to see it first

Mantle for budget, Physx is meh. Also strech the budget a little and get an MSI R9 280, They are cheap as hell! perform verry good and longer longlivity then the 270 (performance wise)

And guys keep in mind Hes on a budget, and a 660 isnt worth it in my opinion.I sold my MSI 760 4GB to get an MSI R9 280 and i dont regret it a single bit !

Let's agree to disagree

Physx are nice but poorly implemented so forget about it. Which dev in their right mind will close it's game to just nvidia GPU?

Mantle is in early stages and chances are most console ports will use it. Again it's nvIdia fault that they did not allow Microsoft / Sony to use a custom build SOC chip like AMD did. This may be their downfall. They make all kind of wierd decisions, including the support for OpenCL.

Between the two cards though, I would go for GTX 660. For the moment it offers very decent performance and for the right price it should be ok.

If your mind is made up between those choices, then I say go for the GTX 660. If I remember right (It's been a while, so things could have changed), then Mantle only seems to really affect those with a definite CPU bottleneck, which is not what you have with an FX 8320.

Also, other than Mantle, there isn't much there with AMD (Hate to say it, but as an AMD user - I use physx [CPU] more than I do anything AMD effectively has to offer) in comparison to Nvidia in terms of software.

Previously Trogdor8freebird

5800x | Asus x570 Pro Wifi (barely enough for 64GB apparently given it's 2133 and still crashes sometimes) | 64GB DDR4 | 3070 Ti 8GB | Love that whole weeb shit

but i could also go for an 760 its around the same price as the 280. but i really like nvidia (not sure why) so the deciding factor would be software/features which is where im getting stuck at.

The 760 2GB model is 30-40 euro more expensive (at least in my counrty) then the R9 280 with less performance and AMD drivers are getting better and better.

I sold my 760 4GB for same price i bough it new (300 euro and its only 1.5 month old so :D) So i won 101 euro and now i just ordered a 2nd once for Xfire wich costed me actually a 99 euro, so i gain a massive boost in a bunch of games for a total of 398 euro ...

I gain alot of performance for spending 99 euro = win in my book :D

Let's agree to disagree

R9 270 is stronger in almost every game ... Unless that game for example Bioshock infinite is heavily nvidia optimized. Most every other game the 270 is a stronger card. Physx LOL a dead tech how many games even have that abomination of crap. nvidia relies on drivers to supplement the fact that they don't have the raw compute power of AMD. If a game is not heavily optimized by nvidia then AMD is the better option always because they are more powerful.

Really cause the reviews state that they are pretty well neck and neck with the 280 being slightly faster overall.

if i went with that card and the 8320, would mantle help at all? i hear its only for weak cpu's

There will be an improve but it wont blow your face away, bottem line is that there will be an improvement. Lol my i3 2120 is bottlenecking like crazy, when using mantle on bf4 my fps tripled.
