hey, im looking into a new monitor and i have a question. on my current lcd, which happens to be an all-in-one pc, has horrible blacks. If i watch a movie or play a game in space the shading is terrible. Is this because i have a low end graphics card or because lcd's can't produce a true black. If it is because the LCD, are there panels that are better are producing blacks than others? and if so which ones are they? What will i sacrifice to get true blacks?

probably the monitor more than the GPU.

IPS displays are the best atm for color reproduction, plan to sacrifice some $$$ :P

To get the best black you need a LED panel with region-dimming. Or you could get plasma, but those are very bad for use with PC.

But your screen is the problem here. You can get a nice quality IPS display and you will have much deeper blacks.

NEW PC build: Blank Heaven   minimalist white and black PC     Old S340 build log "White Heaven"        The "LIGHTCANON" flashlight build log        Project AntiRoll (prototype)        Custom speaker project

Some 1080p IPS display from ASUS or BenQ or Samsung or Dell

And if possible go look at it in store in person so you can see what it will be like when you buy one.
