Hopefully the new 800 series comes out soon, when that happens im gonna take my 770 card and use it in my "media pc", my current media pc is quite old by now, so im gonna have to upgrade it a bit, im thinking amd, never used amd myself before but i have heard they deliver good performance vs price, i dont really intend to spend a huge amount on it, i have been looking at these "cpu, motherboard and ram" combos that a place i often buy from offers:

1.

AMD A8-6600K Quadcore 3.9-4.2GHz, Radeon HD8570D

Gigabyte FM2+ GA-F2A78M-D3H

Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1600MHz 8GB (2x4GB)

Price - 280 dollars.

2.

AMD FX-4300

ASUS M5A97 R2.0 Socket-AM3+

HyperX Fury DDR 1600MHz 8GB

Price - 290 dollars.

3.

AMD FX-6300

ASUS M5A97 R2.0 Socket-AM3+

Corsair Vengeance DDR 1600MHz 8GB

Price - 300 dollars.

These are the options i have been looking at, converted the prices from our currency to dollars, our hardware prices are always a bit inflated comared to us prices sadly.

What i would like to know tho, is what looks the best, i have never used AMD myself before so i have no idea what the difference is between the A8 and FX series is for example and the difference between the FX 4300 and 6300, the price difference seems quite small atleast.

Im gonna be using mostly for watching movies obviously :) but since im gonna be using my 770 card in it, i might aswell also be using for a smaller gaming rig i can use in my bedroom and livingroom.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Ryzen 7 3700x, MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX, 16GB Ballistix Elite 3600MHz, MSI RTX 2070 Super Gaming X Trio, Corsair RM750x V2

If you're using that gpu in it, get the FX4300 rig.  Also, don't you need a PSU, case and hard drive? Also, are you from Canada?

Also, may as well just get 4GB ram and run a 32bit OS, if you're only using the rig for media.

Im also thinking using it as a pc to play on in the bedroom or living room, wich is why i have no problem paying a bit more and getting decent hardware.

The psu in my current old pc is a pretty new one and massively overkill for that pc, the only one i had tho, so im gonna be using that, i read the 4300 was good if you also wanted to game, so yeah that might be it. The old "media" pc also have a fine case and 1TB hdd, im gonna get a cheap 128gb ssd and no im from Denmark :)

all this is overkill for a media center

Yeah i kinda know its overkill for a media pc, but as i wrote, i will also be using it for a livingroom or bedroom relaxing gaming rig, wich is why im gonna port over my 770 when the 800 series comes out, obviously a 770 would also be massively overkill for just a pure media pc.

then your media pc will be more powerful than my gaming PC

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

fx series are just the cpu, a8 a10 etc. are cpu+gpu on a single die, while cpu isn't as powerful as fx series, it would be plenty for a media pc, but since you plan to put a decent gpu in it, get the 6300, as its a fair bit better than 4300, but you'll need to add some gpu to run em, until you plug the 770 in, since fx series has no integrated graphics.

the apu (a8) first option would just keep the 770 back...

32bit limits you to 3.2GB ram, not 3.3GB. And if OP is only gonna be using it as a HTPC, all he'll be doing is playing music/movies. 32-bit Windows, or even Linux will suffice for that purpose. In trying to keep the price down, a small amount can be saved by getting 4GB of ram instead of 8GB, because after all this is meant to be a "cheap as chips" build.

Please don't state the obvious, use some logic please. kkthxbaii
