Motherboard Help Needed

Go to solution Solved by Sintezza,

But the down side of the Hero, is that it does not have bleutooth and Wlan onboard.

And it also lacks on Sata express.

Since you do like to have, wifi / bleutooth, and sata express feutures.

I think that the Deluxe is the cheaper, but decent choice for you.

300+ euro boards on Z97 based platform, do not realy make much sense to me.

I dont realy see why they should be that expensive.

Because if you think about it, top end Haswell-E boards, can be found arround the same amount of money aswell.

And a Haswell-E 6 core 12 threads cpu like the i7-5820K, will whipe the floor in editing and rendering with any Z97 based cpu.

Hi guys,

I am  looking for a awesome Motherboard that is really good for gaming aswell some video editing and supports Sata 3.

Here the list what i will have on my mobo:

-> Intel i7-4790k

-> GTX TITAN (would like to SLI in nex year)

-> Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1866 MHZ

-> Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H100i

Think thats all you need to know for one.

Price doesnt matter!!!!!

Was thinking about ASUS z97-Deluxe but not sure if it fits me with that build or the maximus is better from ASUS

Unless you plan to do intense video editing/autoCAD then the Titan is a massive waste of money. You would be better off getting SLI 780 which costs the same but bring much much higher performance to the table.

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

Although i could suggest you a $300+ mobo since you said no budget,i find these motherboards to be waste of your money.

You can find the features that you ask starting with $120 or so.I would suggest something within $170-200 price range.2 excellent motherboards are: Asus maximus vii hero and the MSI z97 gaming 7.

Well its a bit depending on how much you care about certain feutures.

The Z97 ws like the name say's is more a workstation oriented board.

They are probably build for stable allday professional based use.

They are less focussing on overclocking and Gaming gimmicks.

The Asus ROG boards, or Maximus 7 boards, are more oriented towards gamers and overclockers.

They have improved onboard audio, better looks generaly, and allot gaming related software gimmicky things.

But yeah do you realy need a highend expensive boards for your needs?

Thats basicly the biggest question.

Maybe you could aswell look at the TUF series boards.

Like the Z97 Sabertooth mark 1.

This board is just made for longlifety. 5 year warrenty aswell provided.

Oops sorry you where asking about the Z97-Deluxe..

And i was lurking about the Z97-ws..

Anyway, THe Z97 deluxe offers some feutures like Wlan, Bleutooth and sata express onboard.

Which the Maximus VII hero for example does not offer.

However the Maximus VII Formula does offers sata express bluetooth and wlan.

But this board is a bit expensive for my taste.

Offcourse in terms of overclocking the Maximus boards are allways decent choices.

And they have improved onboard audio. They are basicly designed towards gamers and overclockers.

Offcours they will be fine for video editing aswell.

So my actuallly question would be this then:

If you got 250Euros and you could get the deluxe would you spend the 40more euros for themaximus or what would be your choise. Just wanna make sure i dont make the wrong decision here.

If price doesn't matter get the Maximus VII Hero. It is, in my opinion, one of the best looking boards out and performs like a champ.

CPU: AMD 5950X    MB: Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero    RAM: HyperX Predator 64GB    GPU: Nvidia RTX 3090 Ti FE    SSD: Seagate FireCuda 530 2TB
PSU: EVGA 1200w P2    COOLING: EK AIO Elite 360    CASE: Fractal Design Torrent
DISPLAY: LG CX48 4k OLED    AUDIO: HIFIMAN Arya SE

Assuming that we are talking about the Maximus VII Formula vs Z97-Deluxe.

if you put them next to eachother in terms of main feutures, they look pretty similer to me.

The Only thing that the Formula shines, is the better onboard audio Sonic OPT amp and Sonic radar

And the abillity to watercool the vrm heatsinks, for better vrm cooling.

However again this is more for looks for gamers...

However you need to be realistic, that overclocking is still a matter of luck.

And depends allot on the CPU it self.

You may "probably" reach a slighlty better overclock on the Formula.

But basicly the Z97 deluxe should overclock verywell too

Its basicly a hard decission, because both board basicly fine for your needs.

I realy have to think about this my self a few minutes haha

Nope only on asus boards, its a plug in module.

The Deluxe has this aswell

But something im more currious about, do you allready have a 4770K or 4790K cpu?

The 5820K supposed to be launched these days, you can allready pre order them.

6 cores 12 threads overclockable.

This will just whipe the floor in rendering with any 4770k or 4790k.

Its just abit depending on what price this cpu gets.

why not?

They are both the same haswell architecture

So in terms of single threaded performance, there should be not much of diffrence.

The 6 cores 12 threads will only give a allot of more horse power in rendering

And you have to jump into DDR4 ram
