Hey, hopefully I can get some help with my issue here.

I have an Nvidia Gtx 770 video card, and it is causing a slow boot (windows 8.1). When restarting my pc, my pc hangs on a black screen just before the log in screen for a good 20 seconds. I've reinstalled my video card drivers and this fixes it for a few restarts, but then the problem goes back to normal

I uninstalled it from device manager (also checked "Delete driver software for this device"), disabled automatic driver software download, restarted, and downloaded latest drivers from geforce website. Like I said, this fixes the black screen for a restart or two, then the black screen occurs again. I've read up online something along the lines of windows update trying to find its own generic drivers for my video card and thats what causes the issue, so I thought disabling automatic driver installation would fix the problem, but it doesn't.

Any help would be great.

In win8.1 go to task manager. There is a tab named "startup", go there. Just disable the programmes you do not want to run when windows is starting up.

Also press windows key + r and type msconfig go to the services tab, then tick the square that says "hide all microsoft services". After you've done that just disable the services that you don't need. eg: Google update service.

I should have mentioned, I've gone through services and startup programs. I'm 99% sure it's a video card driver issue - that guide looks really informative, so I'll try it tomorrow morning and report back

Thanks for that guide.

Maybe something's up with your BIOS.

Try checking the hard drive boot delay, or something similar to that. Don't put a delay in it.

Now that I think of it, when I had a GTX 660 it does the same thing but not that long though, less than 5 seconds. Now that I don't have one, I've noticed no black screen and it just boots up directly to login.

Finished Crysis without a discrete GPU,15 FPS average, and a lot of heart

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."

How do I check the hard drive delay? I don't thnk there's an option on my bios.

It's on the boot options I think.

If it's not there then don't bother looking for it.

You try defragging? maybe the delay is caused by it being far out fragmented.
