Samsung laptop brightness problem

I am currently working on my dad's windows 8.1 laptop and after he switched to 8.1 the screen brightness is completely low the fn key still works and I can move the brightness bar up and down but there is now actual change in the screen brightness and I have also turned off adaptive lighting

I was experiencing the same problems. I fixed it for the time being by using the latest VGA graphics drivers from the Samsung website. This one:

VGA(Graphics),INTEL (Driver) (ver.9.17.10.2875)

It doesn't seem to be the "most up to date" driver. When installing this driver it warned me that the drivers I currently had were newer and asked if i wanted to proceed. Anyways, it worked. I'll update if it stops working at some point.

You could also possibly try rolling back the driver via the device manager. Good luck.
