Impossibly weird internet problem

Go to solution Solved by galof3,

Well, new router made the difference

So, for some days now my internet connection suddenly and randomly falls down and I can't load any web page. So I go to my router and it's on, it has not rebooted, it says it's all ok. I call my ISP and I get the same result, everything is ok with my connection. Then I keep trying things and while I was on a Skype call I couldn't load any web again, but the call worked perfectly. Then I thought, well, must be the DNS server's fault, but no, I can ping pages while it's not loading them and the IP is resolved correctly, no problem there. With longer pings I see normal latency but sudden "Request timed out" messages. And it's usually during those messages that I can't load any page, but skype still does work!

My connection is set up with LAN cable that windows detects as gigabit so I don't think that's at fault.

Since other computers in the house connect wirelessly I'm getting a router, nothing fancy but surely better than what my ISP gave me (crap).

Also, this pc is quite new, I got it a little after new years.

I'm out of ideas, I need some halp!

I got a little confused by your punctuation so bear with me, but I'll take a stab at it with some questions here:

1) Do other devices experience the same intermittent connection despite being on wireless?

2) You're using a router your ISP provided? If so, have you tried any other ones?
3) Have you run any scans on your computer? What anti-virus, firewall, additionally does this happen in other browsers as well?

Yes, other computers and smartphones do have connection issues but since they are not my personal computer I haven't tried as many things as I have with this one.

I've never tried using other routers but one is on the way from amazon.

I've run malwarebytes, no luck there either. Other browsers get the same result and I'm only using windows' firewall. But then again, this is only momentarily, right now it's working no problem but it's really annoying to browse and see how it won't load unless I wait a minute smashing F5

Sorry for my punctuation, I'm spanish and I kinda do what I want with commas :P

Have you tried directly plugging in your PC to the modem rather than through the router and checking what your connection is like at that point? If it's stable, then your router is bad.

It's a cable modem and I have tried running it in brigde mode and might work better but can't test that for long enough because the other computers use wifi

Well that's what I mean. If you plug it straight to your modem, taking the router out of the picture, and running...say Skype and it works, then your problem is the router.

You said you're getting a new router soon anyway, right? Either test it with your PC connected by itself or wait till your new router arrives. If the same happens with the new router, then you may have other problems.

Also, how old/what brand is the current router?

Damn sorry, I meant cable modem/router. It's a Cisco EPC3825, I thought that since cisco is a good brand it would be good I was so wrong
