Copy steam and origin games?

Just move them onto another drive, or retrieve them from the Old Windows folder in the system boot drive after the reinstal. Though you have to make sure that you don't format it otherwise everything will be erased from the drive prior to the installation of Windows.

I'm planning to format it, so no "old windows" folder, can I just copy the steam and origin folder?

easiest way is to go and copy the entire Steam Directory to an external drive (normaly C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\)

what i did to my drive when i installed windows; was put windows on a 50GB partition and had the rest (250GB) a second partition, all the games and programs i wanted to keep were installed to the second partition so i did not have to do coping of the steam folder again.

also get a pair of 1-2TB drives, run them in a mirror and you should have no problem of finding a place to put most of the games.

Yup, you only need to move the folder in which the game is in, Steam will auto find it and link it all up.

Though I have one time had a game that wasn't detected and I had to re-download it.

Steam has a backup and restore feature which is very easy and effective

Origin does not have this feature but do as i say it always works for me.

1. Copy the game folder from the origin games folder in your default directory to any other location.

2. After fresh install of new os install origin and login to your account.

3. Click on the game you copied in origin and start to install it.

4. After the download starts, pause the download and exit from origin.

5 Now paste the game folder back to the origin games directory which you copied earlier.

6. Start origin again, resume the game download, it will automatically show the download as complete and will start to install the game, and the game will be installed.

7. Play and enjoy the game

Steam games are in the "SteamApps" folder (subfolder of "Steam" in Programs directory)

Origin games are in the "Origin Games" folder (in Programs directory)... not "Origin" folder, this is the client only.

Install Origin/Steam clients if on a new PC.

Copy/Move game folders them to your new pc/drive, "install" individual games and it will (hopefully) detect existing game files. (easily visible if it's not working)

Programs directory usually something like "C:\Program Files (x86)\"

If games are in a non-default location, you'll need to tweak some settings (google is your friend) in the client & possibly at game reinstall
