I'm looking for a quality modular PSU that will handle my current components as well as have some headroom for future components.  Pcpartpicker puts my system at 690w and I feel like my current PSU (TX750) is cutting it too close with overclocking.

I would like some recommendations on which of these or other PSUs would work the best for my application:

EVGA 1000 G2/P2

EVGA 1300 G2

Corsair RM1000 / AX1200i

Thank you,

Current specs:

Motherboard: Asus Maximus Vii Hero

CPU: I7-4790k @ 4.6Ghz

Cooler: NZXT Havik 140 (Looking to upgrade to H220x or custom loop)

GPU: 2x Sapphire R9 290 Tri-x

RAM:2x8gb GSkill Trident X 2400Mhz

SSD:Samsung 840 Pro 256GB

PSU:Corsair TX750

Case:CM Storm Stryker (Stock fans)

If you're worried about gettting a 850w psu, I'd read this. http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/radeon_r9_290_crossfire_review_benchmarks,4.html

As long as you don't have 6 HDD's and a shit load of fans, you'll be fine.

@Exile

A warm welcome to Linus Tech Tips!

EVGA G2 is the PSU to get right now, so the 1000G2 is what I would recommend.

Thank you, I look through the forums a lot on here, just haven't posted much.  I appreciate how nice and informative everyone is on here.

The EVGA Supernova 850W G2 would be enough.

I'm slightly worried about 850w, thank you for the article.  I'm not sure if this will leave me much room in the future if I should end up adding a third card or custom loop.

evga g2 1000w should be enough, the p2 is also a great chose but if you have enough money to spend on it

Thank you for the suggestion, I have looked into the p2 however not sure if I would be better off going for the 1300G2 at the same price point if I go that route.  However I know both would likely be overkill for my current system.  I have also heard a lot of great reviews on EVGA PSUs is there much difference between EVGA and Corsair in terms of quality?

As a side note what does the AX1200i offer for the increase in price?

Unless your gonna have a lot of things in your computer that's gonna waste power then you should get the 1300g2, if not then get the p2 instead.

The AX1200i can be monitored in Windows for things like power draw and stuff like that. Not worth the money IMO. The EVGA G2 is a better built power supply since it's made by Super Flower

I think you might be overstating that a little. The AXi series is pretty damn good. Yeah EVGA is a high quality unit but the Corsair ain't chopped liver either. The RM OTOH, IS chopped liver and I'd stay far away.

Sir William of Orange: Corsair 230T - Rebel Orange, 4690K, GA-97X SOC, 16gb Dom Plats 1866C9,  2 MX100 256gb, Seagate 2tb Desktop, EVGA Supernova 750-G2, Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3, DK 9008 keyboard, Pioneer BR drive. Yeah, on board graphics - deal with it!

Flextronics is a server PSU company. They have a higher standard that is needed to be met when making PSUs than a consumer grade company like Seasonic and Super Flower. So saying it is "better build" because it is made by SF is an overstatement.

Nonetheless, the AX1200i is indeed rather expensive, and the EVGA G2 does provide a great high-end unit for an excellent price. Plus, there have been people complaining about the fan profile of the AXi series. As such, my recommendation goes to the EVGA as well.

Thanks again for the recommendations, unless I can find the AX1200i at a fairly comprable price, I will probably end up going with a G2 PSU.  The only other thing I'm not sure on is if I should go with an 80+ Gold or 80+ Platinum PSU.  Wouldn't any savings from efficiency be negligible when considering the upfront costs?  Anyways, thanks again everyone for your input.

if you shop around you can get the 1000w G2 for around 160 CAD thats cheaper than some smaller Corsair psus while also having a 10year warranty. the only concern is that the g2 is slightly longer than your average psu so take that into consideration it was a tight fit to get it into the back of my Corsair 540 air case

If you are from the US, there's a AX1200i for $280 with a $30 MIR to effectively make it a $250 unit if you received the rebate. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-ax1200i

You can get the EVGA Supernova 1200w P2 for $235.99 without any sort of rebate. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KYK1CKI/?tag=pcpapi-20

Saving between the two with efficiency would now cut down to nearly nothing.

As far saving between gold and platinum. It does depend on the cost of electricity, and then calculate how a ~3% difference in efficiency would effect your power bill.  However, the G2 is on the high-side of the Gold efficiency nearing Platinum, so the difference may be even smaller.

Thank you, I did forget to mention that I am from the US.  Both of those deals are tempting and I do tend to prefer Amazon.
