Build in easily fortified areas. Lots of stone doors too. Stay away from everyone else.

Do you mean legacy or experimental?

 

Legacy gets pretty standard and easy after a few hundred of hours:

 

Build in well hidden places (google helps a lot). As far as possible from cities. It'll take about 30min to get to somewhere decent but at least you won't be raided by hackers every night.

 

Play on PvP servers to get your aim right and play on 4:3 1080x760 something along those lines. Heads get bigger, headshot ration increases dramatically.

 

Also, whenever you have a good gun, never walk with it. Never drop your rock too. Keeping it on your inventory is great when you need to escape unnoticed or be a unkown threat. Can't remember how many times I killed full kevlars with this tactic. It's hilarious... oh boy, I (will) miss Rust.
