1. My PC just randomly shuts down while gaming or just sitting idle.

2. It shuts down usually between 15-45 minutes of the PC being up and it does not turn itself back on.

3. I am also able to turn it back on with the power button right after it turns off.

4. My temps are fine so i doubt it is shutting down due to that.

5. Their is no BSOD just shuts down right away.

6. I am thinking it is my Powersupply considering it is about 7 years old now but just want to make sure before i buy a new one.

Let me know if you need any more information and if i don't get back right away its cause my PC shut down again.

Thanks i guess i will just have to cope with it until i get some cash to pickup a PSU.  Would of gotten back to you sooner but PC shut down right when i went to reply.

Check my sig for a tier guide of all the psu that are good...Also what kind of PSU do you have currently?

If you've previously won the build off please pm me so we can get something worked out.

lol

ok then, good luck

also if possible, try to get a friend's PSU or something just to confirm it is your PSU.

There is a 1% chance that your motherboard is the problem, but it is very unlikely since you said your PSU was 7 years old...

Hi !

My PC has been doing random reboots recently, with no blue screen or anything. I am using W7 x64. It happens at anytime, I could be surfing the web or playing a game, it will just power down and reboot. It works fine for an unspeciefed amount of time like 10 mins - 2 hours but then reboots itself. Another thing is sometimes it shuts down and I have trouble powering it back up. The PSU fan spins and all my HDDs power up, the mobo shows phase leds (Its an EP45-UD3L) and then would not post. Quickly dies out in 2 or 3 seconds.

The CPU and memory stress tests show no problems. (I did the tests when it worked for 2 hours w/o rebooting)
I have tried RAM from another PC as well. Still reboots.
I have never overclocked the CPU manually. I removed the old thermal compound from the processor and applied new Cooler Master IC Essential E2 thermal grease, thinking it was an overheating issue. That did not help either.
However under load, I can hear arcing sounds coming from around the CPU socket.

My Corsair TX-650M PSU is fairly new bought it last year (Aug 2013). I have checked the voltages in the bios, and they all seem to be correct (everything is on auto). I have tried a good working PSU, Antec 650 from another PC. Same behaviour. So the PSU is not the problem.

After roaming the forums I have come around to think its the faulty mobo, but I just don't know what to do with it now. I am going to buy a replacement mobo, but I don't want to just throw the old one in the bin. Can it be fixed? If not is the bin the only place for it?

OS: Windows 7 x64
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3L (BIOS ver F9)
Sapphire Radeon HD 6570
Intel Core 2 Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz
2 x OCZ Gold series 2GB RAM modules
WD Black 250 GB HDD
WD Caviar Blue 500GB HD
Corsair TX-650M 650W PSU
