Is Corsair RM1000 a good gaming PSU ??

 

Hope someone can help me... 

 

There have been numerous of discussion regarding this as of late.

The RM series is a decent mainstream unit. Whether or not it is the best choice will depending on the availability and pricing of other potential units. As such, it would be helpful to know your budget and where you are able to buy from. Also what will you be powering?

Hello and welcome to the forum

 

Though that is certainly a good PSU I personally prefer EVGA PSUs. I would look at a EVGA SuperNOVA before purchasing.

If you are going to look at EVGA PSUs, I would look at the Supernova G2/P2 and the upcoming T2. The G1 is more of a budget level Gold unit, and as such I would likely recommend the RM series over it (depending on the price of course).

A 1000W psu is usually overkill for most systems. If you want a very good psu rather than an average one, then avoid the Corsair RM. I would suggest something like the EVGA Supernova G2 or the Superflower Leadex Gold if they are available in your Country.

@quan289 What do you think of the G1 1000W? Realhardtechx lists it as made by Superflower in contrast to the other G1's. Odd choice that they made a series with a 650W, 750W and 1000W. Price different between the 1000W G1 and G2 is ~$10 on PCPP US right now.

- The two primary capacitor are side-by-side on the Aurum Pro on the right side. The placement is similar on the EVGA, but the one towards the middle is moved towards the back of the PSU.

- Moving along down that primary cap near the middle, you see two transformers. If you do the same on the EVGA, that black shiny rectangle is one of the transformers.

- Move to the left side, you will see a row of red polymer caps and a daughterboard next to it which is the DC-DC VRM for the 3.3v/5v rail (there are also polymers underside of the VRM). The EVGA has some of the polymers on the mainboard moved towards where the VRM was, while the VRM is flipped upside-down to show the polymers is mounted parallel to the modular board.

- Look at back of the PSU on the EVGA through the exhaust grill, and you would noticed that the heatsink with the bridge rectifier had switch places with the green Y-caps (blue on the Aurum Pro).

 

Unless SF used it as a reference to make a custom design for EVGA, this seems to be a modified Aurum Pro to me. Seeing how it has been worked on, I'm looking forward to see what they did to it. The Aurum Pro and the Aurum Xilenser (like it was on the BeQuiet DDP10) was what I thought the NEX650G/750G (G1) was going to be, but I was left disappointed. Anyways, the 1000w G1 should be a great power supply, in which I have no problem recommending it if it's priced a bit better in the region they are buying at. Otherwise, the 1000w G2 is priced so well atm in the US, I likely wouldn't recommend the G1 variant.

While I haven't had it for very long, I am running the Corsair RM750. Having a fully modular PSU has really helped me out with my cable management, though if bent at an odd angle, can be a bit tedious to work with behind your motherboard. Fortunately for my case, it wasn't bad at all. Aesthetically, I really like the design of the RM PSUs. The black design with yellow accents looks really good in cases where you'll be able to see it. All of the cables are removable, and sleeved, and all are completely black. I opted for an RM750, even though I am only running an MSi 6870 right now, just because it was a $5 difference between it and the RM650. You can purchase the RM1000 off of Newegg for $150 right now, which is a phenomenally good deal for such a great Power Supply. Whether or not 1000 Watts is overkill is your verdict, not mine. Just note that the differences in pricing is so great, it would almost be worth it to get the RM1000 just because of how affordable it is right now.

^ The fact you own an RM750 and think the cables are sleeved is a testimony to how much you know.

$150 is a good price for the RM1000, at least considering the higher price it's usually at. Still, if I needed 1000W I would be aiming for something of higher quality than the RM1000.

2 X SLI  = Gigabyte GV-N770OC-4GD (rev. 2.0) 4GB 

and a total of 16 Gb of ram

 

And a new case = Fractal Design Define R4....

Which website are you buying from ?

 

For GTX 770 SLI a 1000W is over the top. Unless you plan on watercooling the gpu/cpu and overclocking everything, then an 850W is enough. 

 

Also the GTX 770 4GB gpu isn't really worth the money. You could probably get an R9 290 for not much more.

The RM1000 is priced = 180$

EVGA supernova G2 is priced = 250$

And the R9 290 is unavailable here in my county, so i thought that the gigabyte 770 in SLI was a good alternative..

And the website i buy from is = www.EDBpriser.dk

770 sli, get evga 750 or 850 g2

The R9 290 is unavailable in my country...

 

A am looking at a danish website Called = www.edbpriser.dk 

There are quite a few R9 290 on that website. This one is cheaper than the Gigabyte GTX 770 4GB one you listed.
