Hi everyone :)

I am planning on getting a new build for my college years and would like some help. I already have the Graphic card, an SSD and a monitor (GTX 660 Asus direvt CUII, a Samsung SSD and a 23" 1080p IPS display). I want to spend around 550$ (USD) for the rest.

I want to use the computer mainly for games (League of Legends, Battlefield, Minecraft) but also want to later install Mac OS X on it (Hackintosh) for a little video editing (I have a Macbook pro retina 15"). I am planning on running the build on Windows 7 mainly.

So I came up with this:

-Intel i5 4690k       $210

-Cooler Master 212 Evo   $25

-Gigabyte Z97MX  $125     OR     ASUS Z97M-PLUS    $125     OR   Gigabyte GA-Z97M-D3H  $87   ---> I want one of these 3, which one would be best?

-G.Skill Ripjaws X Series (2x4Gb) DDR3-2400 Those are really cheap for that speed        $81   (will later pick up another pack of 2x4gb)

-No idea for the PSU, was thinking of a Corsair CX430 or CX500 ???

-No idea for the case neither, want something sober, no agressive gamer look or whatever ant not too big. NZXT source 210 at only $35???

So I am at $440 with a $125 Mobo and without PSU and case.

What do you guys think?

EDIT: Just notices this warning on pc part picker, should I get another kit of Memory?

The G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory operating voltage of 1.65V exceeds the Intel Haswell Refresh CPU recommended maximum of 1.5V+5% (1.575V). This memory module may run at a reduced clock rate to meet the 1.5V voltage recommendation, or may require running at a voltage greater than the Intel recommended maximum.

Now, I'm being serious with you, do not have the same PC for your games as for your work.

For me, it always distracts me and makes me want to play games on it or browse Facebook or watch Netflix.

It's much more effective to have a Laptop for work and a desktop for play. That's what I find anyway.

Compatible with Windows 95

I have my Macbook pro for doing work and I almost never study home but at the library :)

Also, I am planning on getting a GTX 870 or 880 when they come up, I will just use my GTX 660 for a few months.

i disagree, if you have all you stuff on 1 it allows you to have 1 very powerful machine ovre 2 less powerfull machines, since the op wants to dual boot ho could have windows for play and macv osx for work

The Z97MX-Gaming 5 is a good mobo, that sexy red line of light looks awesome, just bought it last week because my G1 Sniper M5 fried my 4670K and sold the memory so last week I got new RAM, mobo and another 4670K.

It's not a bug, it's an undocumented feature!

Might want to get a better PSU,maybe a 600/650W

Wouldn't that be overkill? PCPP estimates my usages to 313W... I switched for a CS450M, I think it should be enough.

Also, anyone knows if this is going to be a problem?

The G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory operating voltage of 1.65V exceeds the Intel Haswell Refresh CPU recommended maximum of 1.5V+5% (1.575V). I use a 4670K with a Z97MX Gaming 5 and a Gigabyte 7950 and my PSU is 650W 80+Gold non modular, don't think it is overkill, but it gives you a bit more headroom in case you want to upgrade to a better GPU
