A while back I talked about how I was looking into the 7260-AC to relieve the frustrations that my Atheros adapter has been causing. I went and bought the 7260-AC today and installed it.

So it worked well for about 30 minutes then went back to the same problems that the AR9485 was facing. This means connecting, working fine for a few minutes, then suddenly reverting to Downloading proxy script... when I use Chrome. Changing the LAN settings to not automatically retrieving settings does not help at all; it simply changes to Connecting... and stays that way until it decides it wants to connect again. During this time if I attempt to disconnect from the network and reconnect, it will fail over and over to connect back to the wifi until it feels like it.

But this time PROset can display a log of what's going wrong. I'm no network techie, so all I can tell is that it repeatedly fails to connect. Also, it keeps on displaying the message "Administrator profile failed to retrieve IP address from DHCP" or something like that.

My router is 802.11n, I have tried both the 2.4 and 5GHz bands and they're the same. Every other tablet/phone in the house has no problem using the wifi while the laptop struggles. Plugging in ethernet also usually doesn't work for the laptop; it exhibits the same symptoms: refusal to connect to the internet or eternal Downloading proxy script... My laptop is Asus K55A and there's only one available ethernet driver and that's Realtek. I highly doubt this cheap laptop carries a Intel NIC.

So could it be the antennas? I mean, that's the only thing wrong other than the ethernet, and if the antennas are partially broken I will just give up and buy a cheap laptop. I'm most certainly not in the mood to completely dissassemble this Asus piece of shit. Fuck Asus for being confusing as possible in terms of drivers, and fuck Asus for using a Seagate drive that has accumulated 144 bad sectors and is incapable of handling Windows anymore. Fuck Asus for their budget laptops that look good on the outside while using complete dog shit on the inside.

Anyways, I digress. Right now, after many many days of trying to fix this thing and ultimately failing to, my temper is bordering on the murderous and my sanity is nearly in question. So if anyone has any ideas, please do offer them. Any helpful input would be appreciated.

ow i feel you man

but judging from the way your WiFi behaves on your laptop

you say it works for 30 mins before it craps on you

is the device set to always on in the network device manager?

make sure the option "allow the PC to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked

are you able to use another hdd and do a fresh install of the OS to rule out software issues?

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Like i said, none of the other devices have problems on this router.

Try disabling your adapter in your laptop then delete your computer from the DHCP client list on your router also you could try releasing the IP for your computer. I've had this problem on a Linksys EA series router when I changed my wireless adapter.

Mein Führer... I CAN WALK !!

Yes. The computer had bigger problems to worry about before I bought a MX100, namely frequent BSODs, refusal to boot Windows, failing recovery, and 144 bad sectors. That's part of why I have venomous hatred towards Seagate and Asus.

I'll try the suggested power options. I currently am running bare retail Windows 7 Home Premium. If it is a software issue I don't know what could be causing it.

I've released and renewed the IP, currently it does not feel like having problems. So I am ok for the moment.
