Hello everybody,

So I'm a first time builder and I want to build an amazing machine for a good price. I saw the AMD FX8320 and the FX6300. I want a CPU in the 150$ budget . I want a CPU with at least 3.8ghz. I know I can overclock them but i'm not sure if I can overclock them to 3.8ghz or more . Is there a setting that you can decide of your CPU Speed?

What do you guys suggest?

And for the motherboard what do you guys suggest?

Thanks for the help

by setting the multiplier you can increase the clock of your cpu, usually in increments of 100MHz. Of course, every cpu, even with the same model number, is different. Meaning some 8320 might not overclock at all without crahsing, some might go up to like 4.8GHz. Its known as the "silicon lottery". Also if you want to push your cpu even further you can increase the volts, mostly referred to as cpu vcore. This helps achieving higher overclocks, but also produces more heat and can reduce the lifespan of your cpu.

An FX-8320 and any FX990 motherboard from a reknown brand would be a solid choice. Just pick the board with the features you want, like expansion slots, usb ports etc. and a color scheme you like, if youre into that.

Also if you want to overclock, especially with power hungry am3+ chips, you might want to get a good aftermarket cooler to deal with the increased heat output of an overclocked part.

For beginners i would recommend ASUS Mainstream(maybe ROG) series because of AI Suite and Auto OC. This works awesome for beginners, is safe and is hardware based. And you can do crazy things with it. Look at Tech of Tomorrow Youtube. Theyve done an awesome guide on Z97 Asus Boards with JJ.
