It's a bit unbalanced IMO, I'd go for 16GB of RAM then get a GTX 770/80 with a cheaper motherboard and unless you plan to SLI the 770/80 I'd go for a 650w 80+ Gold.

Mmm... About 200$ higher but you got a 770 4GB, if you switch to 760 it's about 100$ cheaper. For PSU I take it that you are going to go SLI in the future right? so around 750-800W is enough but is very close so I took a 850W. Also I take it that your work need the Cuda from the GTX card right? so that's why I stick with a 770. But if you can switch to AMD, get a R9 280 can keep the price within ~1500 CAD, and the performance of the R9 280 is just a bit below the 770 in game, I'm not sure about working/editing on it though.

Yes SLi is future proofing. and will be sticking with Geforce. As for Zotac and G.skill are they reliable brands?

Also is 32gb overkill for this system?

Zotac is an OK brand, I'd take Gigabyte over Zotac though, I click the wrong one when I choose :P the one from Gigabyte is about 6$ more.

G.Skill is good.

32GB is overkill or not is depend on what you are working on... if you are not sure then how about buying 2x8 GB first so you have 16GB RAM and see if it's enough or not, then if it's not buy another 1x8 GB to move to 24GB? Since 32 GB is basically just 4x8GB anyway.

What if it was not between those two and included others?

Hello king_x_,

Concerning the HDD, WD Black would indeed do the job for you. It's fast and with enough cache to work with large files.

If you are planning to really push that build with heavy workload, I would suggest you look at WD VelociRaptor or WD Xe. These 2 drives are designed specifically for working with large, heavy files, spin at 10,000 rpm and are specifically developed for 3D rendering, digital content creation and editing. Here are a couple of links:

Hope this helps,

Captain_WD.

If this helped you, like and choose it as best answer - you might help someone else with the same issue. ^_^
