This build will be used for work only, NO gaming will be done on this rig. Programs being used are Auto cad, after effects, photoshop, premiere, etc. I would like a video card that will be great for CAD and 64 gigs of ram would be desirable. Will I need to run windows 8 to use 64gb of ram? The budget is $4,000 for just the tower and OS.

[Edit]

So this is the build I decided on. Are there any incompatibilty issues I have? Will all these parts work together? Will I need to update the bios with this build? If so how will I go about doing that? Thanks for all the help.

@Synthetic-Pulse remember to follow your topics ;)

This build includes sli titan blacks, a core i7 4930k, 64gb of ram and an asus sabertooth x79 motherboard. Unfortunately it's 4300$, which is above your budget, but I do believe it's worth it for what you need. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/rXfCZL

If you can't spend that much, you can either get a single titan black and add the second one later, OR settle for less ram and add more later.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Will you be overclocking?

I think quadros are better than Titan Blacks for what OP's gonna be using the PC for (since he's not gaming either) Xeons might be better and the H110 is unnecessary if he's not planning to overclock the build.

AutoCAD does NOT support SLI so don't buy 2 cards... get the best card money in your budget can buy.

cad performance is better in titan blacks strangely enough. didn't know it doesn't support sli though. nd oc is free performance, I don't see why not ^^

EVGA 220-G2-0750-XR is a better psu than the HX-750 comes with a 10 year warranty and is not much more expensive.

Did you consider PNY VCQK4200-PB Quadro K4200 4GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Workstation Video Card? It is ~$110 more but offers 1GB more VRAM and 75% more CUDA cores.

Memory speeds do make a difference in workstations. You may want to consider a memory kit with better timings.

Why Windows 7 Ultimate? Did you consider Windows 8?

If you plan to overclock the cpu a Hyper 212 EVO is not optimal on an X79 motherboard. Asus for example, recommends AIO coolers on X79 especially when overclocking. This is because the power distribution components are beefier and tower coolers tend to interfere with cooling those components.

I have had good luck with the corsair PSU and bad luck with EVGA PSU.

I am going with that video card because its almost $200 off on sale.

I would like to stick with windows 7 because I hate windows 8, I really did not like the layout.

I put that Hyper 212 eve on the list so people would see a cooler and not all point out that I needed one, I will be adding a custom water loop (That price is not included in this budget)

Is there a motherboard anyone would recommend for the i7-4930k that would NOT need a bios update, will be rock solid for a workstation board and be able to run 64 gigs of ram?

I think all the 2011 boards will need a bios update to run the Ivybridge-E cpu's. If you stick with an Asus board then you will be fine, as you can update the bios via a usb stick without the cpu being installed.

What EVGA psu have you had bad luck with ? The G2/P2 models are excellent power supplies. Maybe you had a NEX as they are not in the same class as the G2/P2 models.

The EVGA psu I recommended is made by Super Flower, is very highly rated and comes with a 10 year warranty - http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=380, http://www.sweclockers.com/recension/18746-evga-supernova-g2-750-w/1, http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/SuperNOVA_G2_750/. If you must get a Corsair I would suggest Corsair HX750, Corsair AX760, or Corsair AX760i - can't see your pcpartpicker list anymore and my memory is you were looking at an RM-750.

I know the gpu you picked is $200 off. The reason is because for $100 more you can buy a Quadro that is 70% more powerful. If the budget doesn't permit, that is ok. But getting something simply because it has been marked down does not strike me as optimal.

With the exception of a few ROG motherboards Asus X79 boards have USB BIOS Flashback - check the specs before you buy. This feature allows one to flash a motherboard without a cpu or memory installed using a USB stick.
