All of these data breaches are getting really tiresome, something in the world of network security is going to have to drastically change before we can have nice things like self-driving cars and etc.

http://www.wbir.com/story/news/local/2014/08/18/community-health-systems-data-breach-affects-45m/14230939/

"Franklin-based hospital company Community Health Systems Inc. had a data breach that affected an estimated 4.5 million patients."

"CHS, which worked with cybersecurity company Mandiant to help address the threat, said that the data affected in the breach is non-medical, but does include sensitive information such as patient names, addresses, birthdates, telephone numbers and Social Security numbers."

-Don't worry guys, they didn't get medical data, just SSN, DOBs, names, addresses and etc :P

This stuff seems to happen all the time. I'm unfazed.

Yeah, but the fact that it happens all the time is just sad and depressing. Higher level execs in organizations do everything possible to avoid spending money on security, because they see it as a type of insurance they do not need.

so a private hospital cheaped out on something critical to reduce spending?

who would've guessed :o

seriously though, things which rely on secure encryption need to be handled with caution to avoid something straight out of watch_dogs
