My face before a 32oz cup of espresso

My face after a 32oz cup of espresso (several energy drinks worth of caffeine)

What the hell is wrong with me? Is this it? Does caffeine no longer work for me? Is this world no longer worth living in?

Depends. How often do you have large quantities of caffeine?

I hate coffee and energy drinks, so I can't really say much from experience, but I've seen people get hyper after having like half a bottle of mountain dew.

I drink at least a 1:1 of water with soda. More with coffee/energy drinks. I can't handle the lack of water. I drink a TON of it. First thing I do when I wake up is drink at least a half liter. I don't know how some people go without it.

You and me, brother. I don't feel the effects of caffeine and alcohol doesn't do much to me either. Well, at least I'm not immune to anesthetics... Yet. That would be horrible.

I frequently used to drink multiple 44 oz Mtn Dews a day during college. Can't do that now. I'll get fat.

You think that is bad... Whenever I drink coffee I have the absolute inverse effect of what you would expect. I get sleepy, my heart rate goes down and sometimes it's hard to breath. All of this will depend on how strong the coffee is. Pretty strange right? It is mostly the effect when I drink coffee although sometimes it works as you would think it would. I just stick to tea :)

Ima add to this: When I drink things with excessive amounts of vitamins, like b12 or b6 (5 hour energy or a metric asston of energy drinks) THAT actually makes me react. 5 hour energy gives me that hot in the head "I have energy but I'm really short on patience" feeling.

Same here- let me ask- have you ever been diagnosed as ADD/ADHD? I was when I was a child. But I show absolutly no symptoms of that now. But I know for a fact I have low Dopamine like most with actual ADHD . Caffeine raises Dopamine. My theory is that, to a certain point, it actually levels out your Dopamine levels. When I drink caffeine, I concentrate a lil better, my hands are steadier (they are really steady as is), and I think more creatively, and generally a little calmer. PAst a certain point it hypes me up like most people. all signs of Dopamine changes. I tend to notice people that are ADD/ADHD, like a friend of mine, that display symptoms, display them less when on caffeine.

Related, this is why a lot of people's thoughts run wild in the shower. The hot water spikes your Dopamine levels. This is also why a lot of hyperactive people have shaky hands: their dopamine levels are really Low. Coincidentally the shaking Parkinson's disease is caused in part by the extremely low dopamine levels cause by the Disease.

This would also explain why caffeine tends to level me out more, and vitamins hype me up like normal.

It's pretty interesting really. I did a research paper on it at some point. After doing my research what I found out about this helped me manage my concentration and creative thinking a lot more. I really lack creative thinking, and when I program, I have always used caffeine to help me think more creatively. I had no idea why that was until a few years ago.

-snip-

I'm the very opposite of what you would describe as ADD/ADHD: always calm, perfectly collected and my hands are always steady. It just may be my body reacting to caffeine. Most of the time the standard effect of caffeine will kick significantly later (couple of hours after drinking it) and beforehand making me really tired. When it kicks in it's like a switch; instantly awake, perfectly calm and I can concentrate and work much more efficiently. It's really strange.

Yah I makes me tired instantly unless I do really high levels. I can sleep right after multiple energy drinks no problem. Oddly enough the symptom of low dopamine I don't have is the shaky hands. But if I miss a couple of meals, or I eat just shit like doughnuts, I get light and shaky, like a have diabetes or something. (I don't). Must mean I'm pretty mild in my dopamine deficiency.  If I drink caffeine or eat some protein, my hands return to normal. It's really odd. I wish I didn't react like I do, but doing research on ADHD really helped me. I have no displayed the symptoms in years. Well, the DSM is complete bullshit in the way they define the disorder's symptoms in order to sell drugs, but I know I have it. Solving it is simply mind over matter, and through self discipline can be solved in more mild cases like mine. But what I found is regardless of whether or not I have it managed, the physical symptoms are there. The lack of the appropriate level of certian neurotransmitters. Which if they could measure that and make THAT the basis for ADHD diagnosis, I think the world would benefit, cause ADHD diagnosis is loose, and non-scientific. So, in understanding the physical cause, I am able to even manage the little things if I want to. I think if those who have a real, and extreme form of ADHD abd struggle with it but don't want to take those terrible drugs could find help from understanding the science behind it.

I don't drink them because first. i hate the taste, and second it contains chemicals that can increase the risk of cancer, Which I don't want due to a number of family members having cancer.
