Sell My ASUS G75VW-BBK5 Laptop and Build a Tower.... or Keep It?

My question is pretty simple: should I sell my ASUS G75VW-BBK5 Laptop (specs below) for $850 and use the money to build a tower, or should I keep the laptop? Would $850 get me a significant bump in quality? I've never built a gaming rig before, but I'm comfortable doing it, and this laptop is so big and clunky that I never bring it out of my house anyway, so the portability isn't an issue. I bought it at a steep discount a year ago for $999, so I'm not losing much on this sale either.

 

Also, some recommendations for parts would be cool if you think I should sell. Thanks!

You might get 850 for it. I sold a G74SX-A1 14 months ago for 700 and it was mint.
