Hello everyone, I have an AMD FX-8320 (Stock 3.5GHz undervolted to 1.275v) cooled by a Cooler Master Seidon 120m (Push-Pull Corsair SP120 Perf.) So I open up HWMonitor and my Ambient temp is give or take ~1C, 27C. Under the Temp section of my MOTHERBOARD list, it states that I'm at 31C while idling, which is good. However under the standalone "AMD FX-8320" list, the "Package" temp varies 12-16C. which is not correct since my ambient is 27C.

So when I start up Prime95 Small LFFT, I max out at 51C under the Temp section of my MOTHERBOARD, however my "AMD FX-8320" list, the "Package" temp is 35C. The "CPU" temp under the Motherboard dropdown list seems more accurate than the "Package" temp. If anyone knows anything I should know, I would greatly appreciate the help, thanks.

AMD CPUs don't have a teperature probe in the CPU (since AM2 I believe), so it is calculated using power consumption and other info. This method is worse at the low end.

This means that some software doesn't get the CPU temperature correct, or flat out doesn't work with certain motherboards.

You should try some other software like HWiNFO32/64, RealTemp and since you have an AMD board check it with Asus AI Suite, I usually find it's reliable.

AMD CPU's (including the 8320) do have a core temperature sensor, but it is inaccurate below 40C.

It's a Kappa off twitch.tv, a chat "emoticon". Used to signify sarcasm, a joke or something that is plain silly.   :D

I don't think there actually is a temperature probe on the CPU die, but on the socket. You are quite right that it is often wrong below 40C, but I have found that some programs are closer than others (seemingly randomly) and Asus AI Suite tends to be very good.

I'm pretty sure there is a core temp sensor on the die. I'll try and find a concrete answer.
