mod project

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

Got a response from Jayztwocents about the issue.  He said it would be the same except for the restriction of the additional tube.

Recently I acquired some old cases for dirt cheap (3 mid towers and an old server tower for $5 total).  I've decided instead of buying a new case I want to mod and retro fit the server tower with my current hardware (fx8350 and gtx780) and liquid cooling.  I've done some planning and measuring and I can fit a dual 120 rad in the attic of the case if I trim the top of the 5.25 drive cage back a bit.  So before I cut back the cage, I am wondering if I use two single 120 rads in serial, would there be much of a difference if at all in cooling performance compared to the the dual 120.  (lets imagine there is a single 120 and dual 120 version of the same rad to eliminate the possibility of different flow patterns and materials and such).

PS. here's a pic of all the cases for fun

You could put a quadruple rad in the front and sacrifice the 5.25" drive for an external one

I was thinking about that too, the current plan is a dual rad in the bottom, 2 intake fans in the front, one exhaust in the rear and either a dual rad or two singles in the top.  I'm gonna scrap the 3.5" bay (I do have two hdd's but there's 5 5.25 bays so I could use an optical drive, a dual bay res and mount my 2 hdd's with 5.25 to 3.5" brackets.  My other idea was dual rad in the front, bottom and top but then id end up with negative air pressure in the case from the two exhaust fans (one up top and one next to the MB tray).

What I really need to know is if there would be much difference (if any at all) between using 2 single 120mm rads up top instead of a dual.  If there is a lot to be gained by using the dual I'm going to cut the drive cage back to it will fit.  If it doesn't matter then I will hang a couple single rads either next to each other.
