Twitch.tv streaming question

Go to solution Solved by rockking1379,

A laptop and a live gamer portable and use the laptop to steam? The laptop does not need to be powerful. The capture card can take care of the video encoding

depeding on what OS he has the server running, he may be able to skip the laptop and just use the live gamer portable for encoding. pretty sure its cheaper than a PCIe card

My little brother loves streaming to twitch, but he has a small problem. He is running a single-core Athlon x64 in his PC, so gaming alone is pretty rough. Streaming while gaming is nearly impossible.

I was thinking though, what if all the encoding was done outside of his system? Is there any way for his machine to dump a raw video onto the local network?

If he could use a program like VLC to stream his desktop locally, i could setup one of my servers (quad-core Xeon, lots of horsepower) to encode the local stream, and stream to twitch using OBS. This would have the advantage of minimizing network impact, because we could achieve better quality at a lower bit-rate.

This isnt meant to be a permanent solution. He is saving up for a new PC, but this would be a great stop-gap while we wait.

Thanks,
