Optical all the way. All the mice I've had with tracking problems or annoyances have been laser. Something huge has to happen in the world of laser sensors to make me give them another try.

That and I find a lot of laser mice die on me.

Yes, laser mice have acceleration issues, but put an optical mouse on a black mouse pad like the QcK and move it relatively fast than it will skip quite a bit (From personal experience). Actually if you even put it on a mouse pad with a graphic it will skip as well

I have a black mouse pad with a really detailed custom graphic that's some years old. I've never seen skipping issues. It is the optimal material though,

I use UT3 as a testbed game whenever I get something new that might affect gameplay and/fluidity of the game....like new GPU, mouse and even keyboard. I have tried a number of mice using this game, and the only mouse that affected gameplay was the Tt Level 10M mouse, but not due to the laser sensor it has, rather it has to do with how comfortable the mouse feels in my hand. I have both laser and optical mouse and, after tweaking the dpi, all the mice I use more than get the job done...other than the Level 10M that is. To me, I have been playing with laser sensor mouse for a long time, and have so used to them that gaming with laser mice isn't a problem.
