Hey guys,

You know those I/O shields from ASUS and possibly other brands that have a bunch of metal tabs that bend easily and can sometimes snap off? Well I couldn't get the motherboard to fit because of them being in the way and it was my first time building so I didn't want to break the motherboard, so after someone suggested it I decided to snap them off. I left the tabs alone that are on the actual motherboard but the I/O panel doesn't have any anymore. In hindsight that was probably not a great idea, but will those lack of tabs damage anything? I don't even know what they are there for but this is the first motherboard I've seen with tabs, the others were all flat. I can get a new I/O shield if I should, they're really cheap.

I have an ASUS Z87-A, and the tabs are really annoying. Now that you snapped them off, it's probably even easier for you to put in now.

You should get a new I/O shield. They're not hard to put in. Just bend the tabs slightly up, slide the board in at an angle, good to go. :)

I got the motherboard in no problem now, PC turned on, nothing seems to be damaged at all, but someone told me the use of those shield tabs is for grounding so the mobo doesn't fry and take out other parts with it. That's why I'm not sure if I should jsut spend $10 and get a new shield form ASUS for the H97 Plus motherboard. Those tabs are super, super annoying.

Well it is for complete protection, they can short out if you don't have the tabs. They get annoying but if you bend them a bit they're nothing.

Okay well I'll get a new shield then. I have to re do the wiring anyway cause my PSU doesn't fit my case because I somehow got the one psu that has odd screw holes in the back... lol. So I'll redo both at the same time.

Is the psu upside down?

No, I tried it both ways and it doesn't fit my case. It's a Thermaltake, it's weird. I'm waiting ont he EVGA Supernova 750W G2 to arrive this week. In the meantime, would it be safe to at least setup everything on my PC and use it for a little while until the new I/O and PSU arrive?
