Sata controller driver

Hi all,

I have an Alienate with an x58 chipset for which I recently added an SSD as my OS drive and reinstalled windows.

After getting my system up and going I went into the windows performance index and saw that for storage I went from a 5.4 to 7.6 which was more or less the purpose of my upgrade.

Sometime after that I noticed in the device manager that I didn't have a driver installed for my sata controller. I tracked down the most recent version of the driver and installed it. Eventually I went back into the performance index for windows and reran the assessment. To my surprise, my storage number dropped back to the original number of 5.4.

I am absolutely sure that I have the correct driver and my bios is set to AHCI. I am very confident that my computer is set up as appropriate and that all the drivers are at the correct level.

 

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

what are the drawbacks of removing the driver and going back to the situation where I have no driver and good performance within the Windows Performance Index?

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do next?

Windows performance indexer isn't what I would call important way to check that PC is good. As for SATA drivers. I don't actually know if they are needed really or not. I have mine installed and I haven't noticed any slowness that would be explained by them.
