Need help with changing my os drive

Hi,

 

I am buying an SSD:http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Storage/SSDs/300GB+-+1TB+SSD/Crucial%C2%AE+MX100+512GB+SATA+2.5%E2%80%9D++7mm+%28with+9.5mm+adapter%29+Internal++Solid+State+Drive+?productId=60859

 

But I don't know what I should do to transfer my windows 7 OS onto the SSD. This is because I only have a 300GB external hard drive and my current hard drive is almost full at 856GB. Then I have to worry about what if I screw the transfer process up, since I have never actually done it before

 

I am wondering if I should delete as many files as possible to transfer my windows 7 onto the external drive?
