Hi, just wondering if i would see any real performance increase by running 2 128gb SSD's in raid 0 or would it just be better to get one single 256gb SSD? I plan to just use the raid controller on the motherboard. I plan to use my computer for photoshop, gaming, CAD and maybe some light video editing. Any advice or other suggestions would be helpful.

Yes you probably would see some performance increases, but a 256GB drive will be faster than a 128GB drive without RAID 0. The issues that come with RAID 0 (one drive failing and ruining all the data), the issue that the onboard controller probably won't be very great, and two drives costing more included, I would buy a 256GB drive; in fact for my build I did.

I'd think that one SSD would be quick enough for all those applications, but what do I know, I only do basic photoshop and I have no problems running one SSD. Also you would be sacrificing IO for faster sequentials, so it all depends on what you need.,

The performance would make up for any blips in speed a single ssd would have here and there. I would choose the cheaper option though.

Single SSD for the OS and Program Data, Two SSD's in Raid 0 for the Speedy Scratch/Save/Output files.

SSD's are small enough that you CAN backup a full SSD drives contents easily to a mechanical drive, if a failure ever occurs.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
