I recently discovered that one of the fans on my Sapphire Radeon 7950 had died, so today I had the original purchaser of the card (bought from a friend) open a service ticket with Sapphire to RMA the card.

Knowing how long these things usually take, I am considering purchasing a replacement card, and I want the opinion of the forum.

Since AMD cards are so cheap second-hand (thank you mining), I have considered purchasing another 7950 for about $120 and then using Crossfire once I get my card back. (I have a big enough power supply and my motherboard supports this).

My other option is upgrading to a R9 290, but because I was planning on waiting on the GTX 800 series before I upgrade, and the cards are still not THAT cheap, I have mostly ruled that out.

My last option is to take the GTX 760 out of my other system and swap it back and forth between systems, depending on which system I need at the time, until I get my 7950 back. This is something I would rather not do as my systems are in positions where it is not easy to remove and replace any parts without a lot of hassle.

What do you guys think? I am really struggling to make a decision, so please help me out.

Thanks in advance.

The 290 is a really good buy but it depends what games you play whether its worth spending that much $ on a gpu

If you wanna get a replacement in the meantime and crossfire later, that's probably fine. I would wait till the 800 series comes out instead of making a 290 your next buy; the 7950 is not a pushover card, and if one has been good for you this whole time then you probably aren't itching for that much more power xD.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.
