$1000 Build for a friend, any suggestions?

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=23378907

There's the link to the Newegg wishlist I have so far which is good I think. The absolute max is $1100 for this build but anything lower and better would be great! This build should include OS but not things like mouse, keyboard, and monitor. So should I change anything? Thanks :D

EDIT: The aim for this build is for gaming at 1080P, sorry for not including that before!

That looks like a good build, but you might want to try to fit in an ssd. Maybe go for a seagate 1tb hard drive instead of a WD black, and then use that extra money to go towards an ssd.

I would like to fit in a SSD but for this pricepoint I don't think I could get away with a higher capacity one and have to sacrifice on storage. So SSD is probably a no go. As far as the WD black drive go, I use them and trust them so I'm comfortable buying another for a friend.

Here you go: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZZmi

The NH-C14 is basically the NH-D14 but a smaller profile and a few degrees worse in cooling. It's still just as quiet though.

The motherboard is micro atx but has 4 ram slots for future upgrades as well as the standard front usb 3.0 header.

8gigs of 1600 crucial ballistix is great low profile-ish ram. It won't get in the way of anything. It's not anywhere as cool as the blue ripjaws but it's much cheaper. (The blue ripjaws are my favorite ram sticks)

I stuck in the samsung 840 120gb ssd is great performance as well as maintaining a low price tag.

I switched out the caviar black for more storage. The barracuda is a great drive for it's price/capacity/performance.

Upgraded to a 7950. Shouldn't have any arguments there. It's a great card especially when overclocked.

The Fractal Design Core 1000 is a cheaper but great micro atx case with front usb 3.0 and should be quite quiet.

The cx600 will be more than enough for the 7950 along with any other drives and add on you have in mind.

I stuck in a lite on dvd drive. I've worked with many of these and they are cheap and do their job.

This is a micro-atx build that's small, sexy, quiet, and most of all, a little powerhouse.

If you prefer newegg specifically, I can make a list there too. Until then, this will do?

Yeah but is there any significant problem with the one I chose? It has good reviews and I don't think paying extra for less wattage and slightly better efficiency is worth it.

it's semi modular, and gold. IF you don't plan to go SLI/CF you will never need more than 4-500W, your config would run fine with a 400W PSU. 550W would be enough for a overclocked 7970.

The SeaSonic M12II is a 3-4 year old design. back than 90$ for 80+Bronze was a good deal but today you can get a Corsair CX500M for 70$, and it's not really worse. And compared to the Corsair CX500M the Seasonic SSR-550RM is a really good deal.

It's pretty good, but you can do without the optical drive, use a digital version of the Windows installer and choose the Corsair 350D. For compatibility with this case you'd need an mATX motherboard though.

Due to Newegg not having the lowest prices for each and every part, I downgraded the gpu to the 7870. If it's not at all possible, it'd be better to shop around get include the 7950.

An SSD should be squeezed in for any pricepoint, even if it's just a cache drive.

Well unless you're doing a $400 gaming build..

Thanks!

Well this is what I have so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/TheShmodo/saved/1EfN

I think I can survive shopping around for parts if it means that we can get a lower price and higher performance.

I see you sacrificed a bit of performance for future sli/crossfire upgrades.

Considering most people don't actually end up doing so, I don't think it would be worth it just to get the atx board.

Then again, it's up to you whether to not you're going to crossfire later.

What do you think?

I've been looking at your original build and I think I'm going to talk to my friend about it. The only thing that I don't really like if the color of the mobo. Is this mobo any good? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157325

Not sure haven't tried but i do use the asrock extreme 4 so if you can find room for that i will recommend that. 4 usb 3 4 sata 3. Really good bang for the buck.

Edit: I made this http://pcpartpicker.com/user/The1nf3cted0n3/saved/1EgD

The motherboard is fine but I would get this instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157306

It has 4 memory slots, giving room for more ram upgrades in the future.

Then it's set! I'll go with the MicroATX build suggested by WoodenMarker and just switch out the motherboard. Thanks everyone! Hopefully my friend will enjoy his rig and I'll finally have someone to play games with :D

I think barring a super sale that's a pretty sick build for $1000!

Devils advocate; drop the mechanical drive and get a 250gb ssd. Then add a mechanical later.

Lol, I think that would depend on the user. I'm fine with 120gb as long as I don't put my games on it. If I do, even 250gb would not be enough.
