hi im trying to help a friend get his computer working and he has a r9 290 by safire and its only outputs digital and hes got a analog monitor. anyideas on how to make this work?

ive tried adding a xfx 5450 to use that as just a output however its not working properly please help

I'm gonna bet bits to bytes you need a VGA port on the video card for the 'analog' monitor.

Normally I'd suggest getting a DVI-I to VGA passive converter plug, but since that card has only DVI-D (Digital-only) ports, that normally requires a more expensive active converter. On the flipside, you can use a DisplayPort to VGA converter to run a VGA monitor off your friend's new R9 290.
