I'm seeing a lot of conflicting information on this, so I figured I'd ask directly. Bearing in mind that buying a used card would allow me to stick a kraken G10 and an AIO on the card in question, thereby removing any issue with the reference cooler, what are the potential risks of buying an R9 290 that was previously used for mining compared to a card that was used for gaming?

You're and your are not the same. Neither are their, there, and they're. Defiantly and Definitely are definitely not the same. Definately and Rediculous are not words, and you should feel bad for misspelling them. it would have been pushed hard constantly, so its life span will most likely be far less than if it was just used for gaming

It could die sooner but thats what warranty is for

most warranties stick to the person, not the hardware

XFX and Sapphire warranties are transferable. XFX and Sapphire make up about 70% of the used 290(x) market

well going through xfx support is horrible, i suggest stay away from them.

Id rather risk having to deal with some bitchy, shitty, half ass english speaking person and save myself 300$. My friends and I have bought 4 used cards, no issues other than a Gigabyte Windforce being a shitty overclocker

MSI doesn't care who the original owner was either. I called and asked before I bought my used 290. I was able to RMA without any issues.

That card will have been running balls out since the day the owner purchased it. It'll be worn out and will have a reduced life span as opposed to a new card. I wouldn't touch use mining cards with a barge pole tbh.

It would depend for me how much i spend and how old it was, such as if the graphics card was old and needed a upgrade then i replaced it with my own money, if it was new and expensive then i would do what you would do to save money.

The point is you can get a GPU that was used for 3 months for 300$ that retails for 600

If your average gamer uses a gpu for 3 hours per day (lets say), that's about 1100 hours in a year under moderate load. If you are mining on a card for 3 months, 24 hours a day, that's about 2200 hours in 3 months under maximum load. For each month a card is used for mining, treat it as a year of moderate gaming usage, just to be on the safe side because continuous usage wears out electronics faster than periodic usage.

Ok, so does Gigabyte have a transferrable warranty?
