Defragging tools

Hello,

 

Is there any free defragmentation software that you know of that is as good as or better than UltimateDefrag?

Windows default defragmenter.

Computer > properties > tools > defragment now

Windows default defragmenter.

is terrible. For many reasons.

I use Defraggler from Piriform. Auslogics is another good one.

Anything from Piriform is generally great imo.

I use Defraggler from Piriform. Auslogics is another good one.

I agree with the windows default defrager thing (except for the one that came with XP, that was good enough)...

Not really... UltimateDefrag defragments files then positions them on the HDD in a way such that the most frequently used files are in the high-access-rate part of the disk....

 

Others just defragments the files (which actually decreased drive performance in real world conditions)...

Not really. It's pretty straight forward and easy to use.

Oh i see...

Well doesn't always storing the frequently used data on the same parts of the disk create more relocated sectors as the drive wears out?

Got it... Downloading now so that I can pull out the HDD from my laptop and defrag it using my desktop...

I don't think so... or at least not in my experience... I keep track of fragmentation and usually defrag when it reaches 20%... I haven't had a drive die on me but I know that this one is only around 10k-15k hours (minimum) before it starts to show signs of it dying...
