Hey there, I work for a computer retailer diagnosing/repairing computers. Just want some input on whether this is a bug or not, seems pretty funny to me. Often times when people return computers (typically because they're old...and don't get Windows 8) or for other reasons, we do a restore on the computer and then sell it at an open-box price. Often times my Tech's forget to ask for a password, however I found that I can still do a restore on a computer without the password by holding shift at restart to get into the troubleshooting menu. While this is awesome to utilize, it just seems like a huge security flaw. Thoughts?

It doesn't sound intended, as you said, people can easily grab a laptop and restore it easily and sell it.

(and with grab i mean steal, happened to me before)

Done this 100's of times.. Shift+Restart just a shortcut to troublshooting and always asks for a password on restores.

That is pretty bad. Especially given that there is a command prompt access in that menu.

But then again, OS X lets you reset the password from the restore screen. And you can reset the password on windows with Linux.

Yeah. There's always options for people who really want to get into the system, but it just seems like something so easily accessible built into the OS is a little bit of an oops. Just wondering if any one else has experienced this, but it's a blessing because like I said, my tech's always forget the damn password.
