Hi, I am a tech guy and I'm looking to build my own PC. I am a power user, and need a few recommendations on what CPU to buy.

  • I will use Adobe applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro) once every few weeks.
  • I will use Microsoft Office daily on this machine.
  • Sometimes I will open up web-server to test my website, but that is every few months.
  • I will use Google Chrome the most so I'd like it to be optimized for this the most.

My price range is $150 and down. Thanks!

FX-8320 if you have an AM3+ motherboard. Otherwise the most expensive I5 you can afford.

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

Welcome to Linus Tech Tips! I would recommend the AMD FX-8320 if you can stretch 25 bucks. FX-6300 if it has to be under $150. There's not really anything interesting on the Intel side for under $150 unless you want to get the G3258 and overclock the heck out of it.

More like least, even lowest i5 costs more than 180$

I think this is a situation in which the 8320 would be your best bet.

This is the rare case where budget constraints and usage needs make the 8320 the far more appropriate option. Adobe products love their extra cores (even as poorly as they use them).
