I need security!

Go to solution Solved by Judahnator,

I use Avast. The service is great, as long as you dont mind it bugging you to buy it

Just installed windows (reinstall, don't mess around with partions :P), and I was wondering what you guys think is the best security software. I used to use Avast! and Malwarebytes for free, but Avast has gotten a little spammy. Any recommendations?

Comodo perhaps?

It is said, that civilised man seeks out good and intelligent company, so that through learned discourse he may rise above the savage and closer to God. Personally, however, I like to start the day with a total dickhead to remind me I'm best!

Avast / AVG seem to be the best for free

MSE is also "good".  It does basic coverage... as long as you're pretty safe with what you download it will be fine

Linux "nerd".  If I helped you please like my post and maybe add me as a friend :)  ^_^!

I'd say meh to security softwares, but Microsoft Security Essensial should do just fine

IMO the best Anti-Virus is common sense :P. I've been using just Malwarebytes for the last year and haven't got a virus or anything bad at all :D Of course if possible keep backups of your system (I do full system images once a week) for the odd time that you can't save your OS from the virus. :)

My Current Build:

Intel i5 3570K @ 4.4GHz 1.11V, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, Asrock Z77 Extreme4, Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600MHz, Samsung 840 EVO 250GB, Asus GTX 760 DCII Overclocked, Corsair CX600M

I use Trend Micro, people seem to give it shit, but I'm not sure why because their service has been perfect to me. Haven't had a virus in about 1.5 years. It regularly blocks unwanted popups as being dangerous and or malicious.

Edit: Oh you want free, nvm. I pay for mine, that way if something does happen, they take care of it by remote

Best security is knowledge and using logic.

Get an email from an unknown sender, don't open it.

Don't click on random links.

Don't download from unreliable sources.

I've not had a virus or keylogger in ~7 years. And i just use the built-in Windows firewall.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arguing with religious people is like explaining to your mother that online games can't be paused...

Big, big Thumb-up.pngfor this, sec softwares is basically useless if you don't click unrelieable sources/emails or let people stick their usb to your pc

I'm gonna quote Slick and Linus here, just use MSE for anti virus, and use SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes for the other stuff. Unless you're in danger of getting hit by some hackers (like a company) or are totally useless on the interwebz a firewall won't have much effect these days as it's all ZeroDay exploits running everywhere.

Also, I can't remember the last time I had a virus infect my computer, it's always just some adware/spyware shit that SuperAntiSpyware with nuke the shit out of. I just run that once a week or something to get rid of all the trackers.
