Hey guys,

I am running 2 250gb WD HDDs in raid0 and i installed windows 7 ("upgrade" from windows 8) on them and they suddenly became really slow (transferrates of max: 10mb/s) under windows 8 it was about 100-120 mb/s

Does anyone know what could be wrong? i had issues like that a few times now with my other harddrive and it seemed to have fixed itself after about an hour somehow O.o

The HDDS are pretty old (i dont know, since i got them free, but i think something like 8 years maybe but i think they havent been used much), but are still in a very good condition, which means, they dont rattle crystaldisk info doesnt show anything out of the ordinary

system is in my signature ;)

This is why people shouldn't use raid. It causes more problems which are not justified by the speed boost.

i just defragmented it

windows 8 was fine, but as soon as win 7 was installed and i booted it first, the 1st boot even took soooooo long

windows 8 was booted onto the desktop in about 20 secs

windows 8 was designed to be more lightweight plus your windows 7 install could be messed up

yeah, but read/write speeds were normal on win 8 too and 7 is not so heavy, that they drop by like 90 Percent O.o

hmm i dont think so, since i allways do it like i did this time, and i never had any problems

what's spinrite?

Hey Willi, I am sorry to hear about your issue.

I would suggest that you run Data Lifeguard Diagnostic to check if everything is ok with the hard drives.

Below you can find a link to the WD website from where you can download it.

If the disks are ok then you can try updating the RAID controller's driver which could be the reason for the slow performance.

If it is an add in card you can take it out and check if there is a model number printed on it, then go to their website to download the driver.

If it is integrated on the motherboard  you can go to the motherboard manufacturers website to track it down.

Hope this helps.

What  model are your hard drives? If they are SATA 1 drives you might experience the issue due to a SATA 3 controller.

You can try with an older version of the RAID/SATA drivers or those that came built into Windows instead of from manufacturer (if any present).

You can also check WIndows Updates to see if there are any drivers listed there.

I hope this helps.
