Hey folks, first post here so pardon any improper etiquette.

I watch quite a bit of Linus on YT so figured this would be a good of a place of any to ask my question :)

I am a Web Developer primarily using Visual Studio 2012.  I want to get an SSD to increase the efficiency at which I can compile, debug, launch, etc applications.

I know I want  ~250 Gb drive.

My question is, are there SSDs that are designed specifically to work better with the increased demand of read/write for development?

Or is the "best" SSD good for all situations?

Over a year ago I purchased a "Intel 520 240Gb SSD" for my home gaming PC.

Wow, just checked the price, it's dropped down to 130.00!  I should get a second and run it in RAID with my existing one for the heck of it! :)

I was thinking to stick with a similar quality for my development PC.

thanks!

A working one. For example, the 840 EVO can write about 700TB of data (not sure which capacity though), which mean that it'll last me another 300 years, but I don't really write that much to it. It has a MTBF rating of 1.5 million hours so it will be fine. Intel SSD's are known for reliability so they would be a good option if you want to be really sure.

I would just look into getting an Evo or MX100

There are enterprise SSDs like the intel 730 and Samsung 850 pro if you want that extra reliability but most SSDS will handle hundres of TB of writes

Just get an evo, I don't think that they make an ssd specifically for development.

I wouldn't raid ssds unless you have good backup.
