Planning my first Home Server

1. Budget & Location
My budget is US $250 or under. I live in New England and I can ship to New Hampshire so sales tax can be ignored.
2. Aim
I'm looking for a home server to back-up a few of my systems. These include Windows desktops and laptops. I don't need anything amazing.
3. Monitors
I have an old Dell monitor that will be just fine.

4. Peripherals
I have old Peripherals so these don't need to be purchased. For an OS I'd like to use FreeNAS

5. Why are you upgrading?
I have several Laptops and PC's in my house (Garage, Mancave, office, living room, kitchen) that aren't backed up and I'd like to create server.

I already have 4 2TB Western Digital Hard drives so these don't need to be included.

I really don't know what I'm doing. Please leave suggestions on hardware, or even a redesigned parts list.
