IPS: Dell U2414H

TN: BenQ XL2420Z/XL2720Z, ASUS VG248QE

If the Dell is the winner I will eventually run triple monitors.

If a TN panel wins, I will have that one monitor and that monitor only.

Feel free to leave your critisizm on the panels NO FANBOY! (IPS is overrated) and recommend more monitors.

Going to swap old GT 620 for a GTX 880 or a red team card that sticks out and play BF4 Ultra.

I have never tried either a 144hz or an ips, and am practically not willing to swap out/upgrade in the future.

I trip to make the fall shorter

Whaaat?? you are comparing two completely different things one is for more color accuracy and the other for faster speeds, it all depends on what you need or want

Going from TN to IPS you're a lot more likely to notice the color and viewing angle improvement then the slightly better response

IPS vs TN???

Mercedes Benz CLA vs Hyundai Elantra

I would say its more like the Batmobile vs a Mini.

I couldn't go back to using TN. I run 3 IPS monitors in surround and 1 TN for the accessory, and I cannot wait to get rid of it and replace it with a IPS.

Most people that will say IPS over TN everytime are comparing good quality IPS monitors to cheap TN monitors, you can get TN monitors that have as good colours as any non professional IPS monitors and still benefit from low response times and 120hz, I'm mainly talking about the Samsung S27A950D. Also this is linustechtips, and Linus would never use a TN because he simply preferes the better colours and viewing angles, and most people here take it as fact, when it's not, it's just his preference.

What are your main priorities going be? This is the question you have to ask yourself. If you're only gaming, get any tn panel. If you're doing a bit of everything, get an ips monitor.

edit, I don't see this thread ending well. I personally loathe tn panels so I'll let you choose for yourself.

For competitive gaming, go for a 120+hz TN

For pretty much any other situation, go for IPS

Don't get people started on this. I would pick TN any day over an IPS panel. As far as I know I don't stand up looking down at my monitor or look at my monitor diagonally. I also don't stop in the middle of a firefight in BF4 to say "Ooh, that's a nice shade of blue," or, "That purple looks great with those flowers."

lol yeah. TN does have advantages in response time, but that's about it, and its unlikely you'll notice the difference.

response time and refresh rate

EDIT: I can see the difference, you 60Hz plebs don't know what you're missing out on :P

Well i heard some people in various forums and youtube comments saying that you could notice the color difference from ips and tn like it was "night and day"... nope not for me, could not notice a significant difference in colors but I think I am a bit color blind so that may be different for you(but the view angles are indeed a lot better), and people keep saying tn monitors have faster response times and such, well i had 2 tn monitors(60 hz) and 1 ips monitor that I am using right now, could not notice any difference in response time or anything like that but I never tried 120hz or above so I do not know how worse the colors are or how more responsive it is sooooo...

I switched from a 1440p IPS to a 1080p TN panel because of the 144hz refresh rate and maaaaan I couldn't be happier with that decision. I mostly game BF4 and let me tell you it's night and day. I couldn't go back to playing with the 60hz refresh rate no more. True that the IPS has better viewing angles and color accuracy but the TN panel is not that bad and when it comes to FPS it makes a very noticeable difference.

Oh, bought the Asus VG248qe by the way.

I have three lg 27ea73 monitors and sli 780 i can tell you that what you are talking about is going to give you a terrible experience where you will spend 30ish percent of the time trying to make the shit run in the game and 70 percent hating/living with the additional bugs, glitches, low settings and low frame rate wishing you could go back to perhaps buy a 21:9 LG 34um95 instead because that is what i am doing right now.

Also them cables!

I was lucky i have a cable management hatch installed inside my wall but every time i need to move something it becomes a friggin chore.

So personally i would say a single ips display but if you dont think ips is worth it to you the by all means go with the tn one.

But if you can hold of on buying one now and instead save your money i would get a 21:9 monitor of your choice.

I believe, on last week's WAN show, Linus said he was now using the ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q (a TN panel) as his "daily driver" .

I'm running a tn and Va panel at the same time.... not difference!

Check out Asus Swift Rog. 1440p // 144hz // TN Panel

The TN panel is better than your average TN, has better colour (still not as good as IPS) reproduction compared to all other TN panels.

that monitor is okay... but it's about as good as 4k displays.

just saying with a VA panel the TN next to mine really makes a good looking E-ink looking display for darkness
